Morning Everyone,

First Butland, now Wickham!!! I hope that other clubs are taking notice....

I wonder who, if anyone is going to be next?

I don't know about you, but I have not seen us sign players of this quality for some time!!!

    Lets quickly dissect the squad...

    Goalie - Butland -

Probably the best, if not one of the best in the division. Say top 3 in the division

Defence - Byram, Pelts, Lees, Pearce, Wooton, Zuliukas, Warnock and Pugh. -

Surely has to be seen as being one of the top 6 man for man defences in the division. True?

Midfield - Ariyibi, Austin, Brown, Kebe, Mowatt, Murphy, Norris, Stewart, Tonge.

Bare with me, but I am struggling to see many Championship sides with a worse midfield. I'd say bottom 6. Agree?

Forwards - Ross, Wickham, Smith, Diouf, Poleon, Hunt.

With the arrival of Wickham, we must not have one of the top 3 forward lines in the division. Agree?

Why is our midfield so poor?

    Am I being overly harsh?

    How would you assess them?

Morning Elland and all. Agreed on that awful midfield. Two great signings but barring a win at QPR followed by an extraordinary run, it's too late. What these two signings have done however is seriously raised expectations with fans regarding all future signings with Cellino. He clearly wants quality and I suspect promotion quickly. Maybe at last were finished with rubbish like Hall, Hunt, Kebe and the dozens of others arriving. Once again in February, I'm feeling excited about next season. I've a feeling the summer cull is going to be ruthless with many of our players facing up to the prospect of non league football

7 points out of 6th place with 15 games to go.

Why do you think it is too late?

Especially if new, quality players are coming in?

    <cheers>

    morning all

not really had a 'decent' midfield since Johnson and Kilkenny left, this one is the worst I've seen for a while. On paper the rest of the team looks pretty good. Wait till the summer cos I have a feeling half of that midfield will be leaving

Jonny we may be only 7-points off 7th place but are up against half a dozen other teams who are serious contenders, and indeed have better players and results than us. Yes we can make up the points with this new line-up but also need other teams to drop points badly.

This is probably the 4th time this season that I'm becoming optimistic and hope this time it comes off. Cellino will be great in the short term because he will demand the best players and results, which is what we all want. The FL need to sort themselves out because they have allowed too many coonts into the game which has killed clubs like Portsmouth and potentially us. They allowed bates to rape us and GFH should never have been allowed anywhere near a club. Cellino is the real deal and will rescue us, but would hate to be the manager when we are in the prem again, but I'll worry about that later. <ok>

Because Jonny, my point being if we don't win at QPR, well be likely ten points off pace with at least five teams between us and sixth spot. It would take an extraordinary run to close that, one which this team even with the two class signings, would be incapable of. However, hoping for a QPR win and keep the dream alive. Who knows, might be another signing before then but we must be nearing our limit for loanees. Anyone any idea how many more are permitted?

Morning all. Not sure I share the view of our midfield. I actually think that with 2 wingers who will only get better, Brown, Austin, Mowatt, & Murphy all vying for 2 spots or all 4 starting. Or putting Kebe and Stewart on the bench if they can't get their collective fingers out. It has possibilities. What will help is Butland building attacks from the back. Knowing that both Ross and Wickham can score shedloads if given a chance, all our midfield need to do is to work together to create the chances.

    Morning all

    Defence - top 6 I agree

Midfield - forget bottom 6 bottom 3 they are awful

Forwards – Disagree about top 3 maybe top 6 at a push... Take out the new boy on loan (and we don’t know if he will perform) and Ross and again we would be bottom three.

An injury to Ross and we are in serious trouble, I am hoping Wickham performs but…. Who would have believed how poor Kebe was going to be before he signed. Need to wait until they have a Leeds shirt on before deciding on that one <ok>

As you rely on your midfield to be your engine room and your supply chain to the strikers we have no chance of promotion with the current crop.

I guess you have to look at the top 6 and think which Leeds player would walk into the starting 11 of them. None of our midfield would be my answer

Morning all ... agree with the optimism the new signings have generated ... our backline must be trembling at having to face Wickham every day in training ... we must remember that Mowatt and Murphy are new to the Championship, and with Austin going off the boil they have suffered ... all three tend to be deep lying mds, so we need someone like a Howson who gets into the opposition box ... our wingers still suffer from poor distribution from our mids and full backs, they tend to get the ball in tough situations where they have defenders around them and limited options to pass to ... hopefully having two good strikers up front will change this, but we still need to get our mids into the final third to keep the opposition occupied so that it frees up more space for our wingers

In regards to the Howson role surely thats what Murphy was brought in for? Didnt he fit that role at his Crewe? Certainly doesnt appear to have that freedom with us though <ok>

Why am I getting the feeling that Mowatt could be the new Howson in CM/AM?

Tell me the 5 or 6 partnerships that are better than them.Only Burnley IMO come close and personally wouldn't swap for any other clubs.Blackburn has 1 top striker,QPR had 1 top striker,Martin at Derby,Nugent at Leicester ok but not as good as McCormack. The midfield is Average to bottom half but have dominated most bottom half teams so not as bad as most think.

To be honest Crewe play more of a passing game than Leeds,He's a good player if played right would be a star at a club like Derby or Nottingham.

You can tell by the way Mowatt plays he's more of a defensive player.

Dawson is the one who gets forward in the youth set up.

Mowatts too slow to attack quickly

They're welcome to each other MTMB. Would be great if their season ticket holders rvolted and the Sc&m side of the ground for the derby was half empty as a result. So sad!!!
