Good Morning Leeds fans, Yesterday was the first time in a long time (no, longer then that!!!) that I felt these strange emotions coming over me These feelings were ones of proudness and excitement. Proudness as I feel we have finally turned a corner and are competing on an even footing with our Championship contenders. Excitement because we are starting to sign first choice players that fellow contenders area are after. We can expect Kebe to put pen to paper today, subject to a permanent deal in the Summer. Don't get me wrong, we have a long way to go, BUT when you consider the calibre of player we were signing two or three years ago, and look at the ones now, we have moved on. What are the 5 worst signings for Leeds Utd in the last 10 years? One player who will not be joining us is Brighton Striker Ashley Barnes who passed a medical last night at Turf Moor. Never say never, but I cannot see us hijacking this one. This means that McDermott is still after a striker. I'm sure we will hear many rumours over the next hours / days with dozens of names coming forward. McDermott is due to sit down with Diouf on Monday to discuss his future. The Senegal striker is currently out of the Country on compassionate leave. McDermott has also revealed he is looking to send Varney and Poleon out on loan. Varney only has six months left on his contract, so I cannot see him in a White shirt again, whereas Poleon has 18 months to try and impress us.
Varney at 'Wall Give him the right players round him, am sure he would do a great job for someone Morning
Morning all. We won't see Varney back, but Poleon just needs some regular game time. All in all, a good start to the weekend.
Morning all The sooner we get Varney out the better, can't see anyone in this league signing him though so he'll probably have to drop a division, not sure whether he would be keen on that idea. Poleon has always scored goals so I'm sure he can develop into a good striker, I personally haven't seen this yet but he has the pace and finishing to see potential in him. Hopefully he can prove himself worthy though.
Can't agree that time's running out for Poleon Elland. All he needs is regular game time to help hm develop. A loan spel to the end of the season. Return to Leeds for pre-season training and hopefully he'll develop as some bloke called Beckford did. He did a fair job for us after being loaned out. So no reason why Poleon wouldn't.
Morning all .. Varney is not a bad player, just can't cope with pressure of playing for Leeds, should be ok at another club ... Poleon is still a baby, he has the raw talent but now really needs game time to progress ... problem is as a striker (same for keepers) so young he won't be given the responsibility of scoring the goals at a club like Leeds where there is serious pressure ... a run in a Lge Two team will help him tremendously, and the lad has a knack for sticking it in the onion bag so let's hope he gets a decent loan spell under his belt and comes back an adult Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
If Kebe signs today I'll feel better and I hope we are chasing a striker. Sharp is available but with BMcD chasing Barnes you have to think Sharp would be wrong type of striker, because he's more of a Smith type? So maybe we're looking for a speedy forward who can work out wide maybe a Le Fronde. As far as competing on a level playing field now (Elland) too soon for that mate because we cannot compete with the parachute payments. The players we're picking up are freebies in reality, although demand a higher wage. £12m each year for 4-years does not make things fair I'm afraid, as we would love to spend half of that on players and the other half on wages .... Young Dom needs to go out and prove himself, and he needs to score regular. Yes he has potential but thats not enough when you compare him to a younger player like Berahini at WBA, who will go to the World Cup. This kid scores regular in the prem and our Dom cannot score in the championship and can't force his way into the team. If they are good enough they're old enough and I'm afraid theres a gulf between these 2 young kids.
Doc, I 've read somewhere that the Barnes option has now gone as he either is having a medical somewhere else or has had the medica & is now discussing terms. That said, I'd welcome Sharp, which would allow us to us Smith off the bench as an impact sub, or start with him if someone like Zigic (big basta&d & dangerous at set plays and corners) is starting for the opposition.
Morning all. Hopefully today is the day we start getting real positive stuff, Kebe and a striker maybe, possibly a takeover done and dusted but I think that ones for later in the month
A loan spell for Poleon would be a very good thing, as long as we sign another striker before he goes. I agree with the comments about his age and lack of experience but I would much rather see him on the bench as back up to Smith and McCormack then Hunt or Varney. While I would not be sorry to see Varney go I think there have been times he has proven himself to be useful and could be a good player but at another club. As already mentioned the impression you get from him is he struggles with the pressure of playing for a club the size of ours. He could definitely do a job for a smaller championship club.
Now I'm going to go lie down, I just gave slight praise to Luke Varney. Must be in a good mood today.
Good morning all Looks like it bye bye Diouf then. To be honest I won't be sad to see him go. Wasn't that chuffed to see him sign last season. As for Varney and Poleon. Why loan Varney out? let's just release him and see the back of him. Poleon is going to need some time out on loan in the lower leagues. Being a bench warmer can't be doing his confidence any good, if he hasn't preformed at say Lincoln City then dump his ass. Don't get me wrong he has potential but potential doesn't make a good player it potentially makes you a good player. As for the 5 worse signings... 1. Neil Collins 2. Liam Dickinson 3 Stephen Crainey 4 Steve Stone (I liked Stone but he only played like one game) 5. Paul Dickov
Its been a long week. Morning all, lets get Kebe over the line and I'm a happy man. Throw both wingers in against the wendies and try and stop the alarming dip in form. Cant do any worse surely? Anything planned for Moody as we are playing the wendies?
Still hoping we'll go in for Nahki Wells as the striker, but it seems like McDermott's after someone who can bring out the best in McCormack, a la Blackstock.
I just posted on the January Transfer thread that Huddersfield have had a bid accepted for Wells. I would be seriously disappointed if he went there. Although I really wouldn't mind a blackstock style player, he doesn't just get the best out of Ross, a player like that will bring goals from all over the pitch into the team as well. Smith just doesn't link up very well so it makes it hard for others to get as involved.
