Looks a hell of a player. If Bale goes I think he's good enough to fill the void and let you spend the dough on forwards.
Madness to loan him out, but at least he is getting regular games and showing AVB what he can do in the PL. He should be back at Spurs fighting for a starting place next season.
He certainly seems to have grabbed this opportunity at QPR with both hands. Before he joined Rangers he was having an excellent season with our under-21 side. The biggest criticism about his game has always been the quality of his final delivery, but he has worked on this and from what I have seen of him this season, he fully deserves the plaudits he is currently getting.
He's doing well at QPR, but with no disrespect to QPR, our clubs are fighting 2 entirely different battles. Like other plays we speak of, is he good enough? Or will he be out of his depth?
He would've got into our first XI today, in my opinion, Roo. We had no width and no threat in front of Walker down the right. Townsend could've provided either.
Yeah I don't disagree PNP. He's definitely a good enough squad player or cover, but I'm not so sure he's our next first XI left winger, should bale leave for example.
Hasn't he played on the right a bit for QPR this season? Even though it's his weaker side, I'd still prefer to have him out there than Holtby/Dempsey where the first thing they do is cut in to move central.
He was there today and had a terrific game - especially bearing in mind that they played for 70 mins with 10 men!!
I prefer to cut him some slack Roo. He's still only 21 and has had an excellent season and has progressed. We've given him this opportunity to go out on loan in the PL and he's grabbed it. You might well be proved to be right and he won't make it with us, but for the moment he's doing well, looking a good player, he's ours and we do actually pay a fortune in wages to our coaching staff, so one would hope between them they can enhance his talents for our benefit when he returns to us.
Don't get me wrong spurcat, I'm just trying to think about recent experiences with certain players when considering Townsend. One thing I'm really conscious of now, is that bit extra u need for Top 4. It's such a fine line. I like Townsend and I wish him all the best, but all I was getting at was that I don't think he's of first 11 quality should bale leave. He's a cracking squad player who we're desperate right now, but I don't think he's ready/got enough about him just yet. I wish him all the best though. He certainly deserves a chance and he's been excellent for QPR.
Yeah his end product has been something that I always doubted he continues to do much better than I expected, most times I saw him this season he still looked erratic and whilst I was annoyed to see him go out on loan leaving us short, I'm really pleased for the lad that he's getting regular games and impressing. I was gutted for 'Arry when I saw Wigan snatched a last minute equaliser yesterday, that leaves QPR needing more than just snookers and barring a miracle they'll go down. Had they held on we could well have witnessed a superb comeback, the momentum they'd have taken into their next few games would've been fantastic.

Conversely I have seen some write about the kids as judge and jury as if Spurs are the Barca first XI. Several will fall by the wayside, but no doubt there will be a few who defy opinion and make it.
People are very fickle - last year a lot wanted us to sign Hoilett. He looks a lot worse than Townsend in the QPR team
That's a fair point, and it comes back to what I've been saying. Hoillet has done very little since moving clubs, so would Townsend be a similar story when coming back to us? I don't want this to sound like I'm slating him in anyway as I like Townsend, but he's nothing more than a young squad player IMO, as there is a massive difference between us and QPR. (No offense to QPR). He could be out of his depth in our first 11.
There only one way to find out, give him a run in the team!he could be just what we need with Bale playing more central now
I'm not sure that he'd be ready to start every week in our first XI, but he'd certainly provide worthwhile cover and competition for Sigurdsson and Lennon.
I think the form he's in atm is probably as much down to starts and good game time, that won't happen as 'cover'. Never a great situation, Caulker has suffered similarly after being everpresent in his year at Swansea perhaps.
that's why we should give him a run of games, not just one or two,Houltby is the same as he isn't getting a run of games we are not seeing how good he is IMO
I've always been a big fan Townsend, think he's a great talent. He's done more than enough at QPR to prove he's worthy of AT LEAST a squad place now at Spurs. With Bale playing central, it opens up a fight for him with Gylfi for the Left Wing role. Gylfi has been one of our best players since his chances in a starting role (thought he was joint MOTM with Ade vs Everton on Sunday) but it'll be nice to have the option of an out and out winger (Andros) or a wide man to cut inside (Gylfi). Plus Andros has shown he's more than capable on the right too so it's nice having an option if Lennon's out.
