Don't know if it's been covered yet but, got it before Christmas, the third book by City fan Nicholas Turner. Some good reading and superb, never seen before photographs. Well worth buying.. One subject interested me in particular and one which was covered on here a few weeks back when I was shouted down by the usual suspects because I said I had been sat in the company of one of the Healey brothers at Boothferry Park a long time ago when we were playing in the old 4th division. It was claimed that the Healy family have never had any interest or involvement with Hull City, I argued otherwise. On page 137 in a section about the ground itself is an advertisement taken out of the match day programme for Healys of Hull. Hull City Associated Football Club, 'A Master Stroke......by.....' They had a contact to paint the stadium, the new South Stand and the North Stand improvements , Healey Brothers Decorators. Also the son of an ex-City player told me last week that the daughter of the longest serving player ever to play for us, and captain, (work it out yourself) married into the Healey clan many years ago. The book itself is excellent and I'm surprised none of the posters who post every day about all things Hull City haven't mentioned it yet.
It was actually claimed that they never had any interested in buying City, not that they'd never been to a game. And it's Healey ffs.
That's a private bet won inside 30 mins ( see above posts) What are your comments on the book wally and scoots ? Having a contract to paint the stadium and advertising in the match day programme in quite an interest in my view. Who mentioned buying the club ?
bought the book myself at the Fulham game - really enjoyed it - some great memories and stories - worth every penny - highly recommended
I'm glad you've won your private bet and started a thread about it (thanks for the directions in the brackets showing how it was won), please, tell us all about it and be validated...
I don't think bidding for work/advertising constitutes taking an interest in the club. It constitutes building up business and making money, with which that family have had a modicum of success.
Bought it in Waterstones, not as chronological as the previous 2 about our early years but packed with interesting bits about BP. Some excellent fans stuff like City patches and tattoos from the 70's and photos of fans protests and battles down Boothferry Road and the Bradford game. Well produced and worthy of placing on any City bookshelf, well done again NT.
I fell for it, I was thinking halfway through that it was a rare good post from Phil. Oh well. If only all gambling was as simple as provoking people and getting the obvious reaction.
Just noticed Gary Taylor Fletcher has scored for Bangor City tonight - bit tenuous I know but, he did see a few games at BP in the noughties. I think we had first dibs on him but never took the option up - generally played well whenever we came up against him.
Yeah wasn’t it Little who had him? I remember him being largely anonymous to the extent that I can’t even remember if he was called Gary Taylor or Gary Fletcher.
It was Little - GTF was supposedly one of the non-league gems waiting to be snapped up, as Lammie says, he started once and mebbe 3/4 appearances from the bench before we sent him back with a 'No Thank You' note.
Adam Pearson actually asked for my opinion on him when I met him in Roarys Bar after a game and I told him I thought he was no better then what we had. The asking price was about £50k in those days. From memory I think he eventually signed for Huddersfield and scored a few goals for them. I do remember telling AP to get Dean Windass back to which AP agreed but said Peter Taylor ( could have been Little) wouldn't have him.
