Most of you will be by now familiar with the end of season playoffs for the Division 2 members ranked 3rd to 6th. This final extension of the BPPL season has been slightly disrupted by the Premier League and Football League seasons not finishing in sync so there has been some changes to the games the contestant will be predicting instead of the standard Championship Playoffs. So firstly the ties! (3rd vs 6th and 4th vs 5th) Ninian Opinion vs Mustyfrog Ninian Opinion has taken to the predicting season like a duck to water and ran Welshman close for his automatic position. After a successful season in the 2nd tier you could claim that Ninian is favourite in this competition after finishing with the joint highest CS tally in the division. He will need more of them to get past Musty, who becomes the first Jack to reach the playoffs, after a campaign based on a massive 17 correct results. This one could be quite high scoring. Sayer77 vs Bluescull Sayer enters these playoffs as the only contestant with previous experience after taking part in last years semi - finals. He has also registered two successful seasons since his relegation to the lower tier so can he take his chance to reclaim his place? Bluescull is also in his début season and has been rewarded for a consistent season with a playoff chance. An unknown quantity, could Bluscull upset the odds here. And the games they will be predicting - 1) Tuesday 13th May 2014 - Leyton Orient vs Peterborough (1-1) 2) Thursday 15th May 2014 - Rotherham vs Preston North End (1-1) 3) Friday 16th May 2014 - Fleetwood Town vs York (League 2 Playoff Semi Final) 4) Saturday 17th May 2014 - Hull City vs Arsenal (FA Cup Final) The winners of each tie will face off by predicting the Championship Playoff Final (24th May 2014) Some research may be needed! And there is a slightly different way of scoring in these matches, so read below! The Red Card prediction has been replaced as described below. Result - The same as normal (3 pts for a CS and 1 for a CR) Goal Scorers - Name the scorers to match the prediction (1 point for each to a maximum of 5 points and an additional 1 points for the exact situation) Yellow Card (Both teams) - 2 points if exact number and 1 point if within 2 (+/-) of the correct figure First Goal Scorer - Indicate the player you think will score first (1 point) Even if you predict no goals, select a player. Can you please PM me your predictions! The rest of you are free to have a go and use this as a thread for discussion if you want. Good Luck
Bottom of the league! I'm having a laugh Next season, I'm coming for the title!! Beware, MWHAHAHAHAHA
Sorry Jay apparently there's a queue.... Sparkey's had dibs on promotion for the past 2 years The final tables will be up sometime soon
I will admit I have never heard of any of the players I picked to score so good luck Ninian, I am sure you will win
Cheers guys, all predictions now in for the massive crunch game of Orient vs Posh. As Musty has pointed out I too have little or no knowledge of the L1 and L2 playoffs but then again I imagine neither do any of the other competitors. I know John Parkin plays for Fleetwood....
Ninian Opinion 4 -4 Mustyfrog So much for a low score, both Ninian and Musty start with CS's unfortunately cancelling each other out by both predicting 2-1 to Orient and helped along by Washington late consolation for the Posh. Ninian picked up an extra point for being within 2 of the Yellow card count and Musty is the only a goalscorer with Orient's Cox. Sayer77 1 -1 Bluescull Sayer and Bluescull also end the first tie in a draw albeit not as free scoring as the other semi - final. Sayer got the point for predicting Orient's win after being denied all three by Peterborough's 90th min goal. Bluescull leveled up by being in range of the yellow cards count. The ties resume on Thursday for Round 2 with Rotherham taking on Preston.
good to see Ninian and I both used the net option to find out the players were and guess who would be playing. Sheep any chance of a pm of my tips as I didn't keep a record. cheers
Ninian Opinion 7 - 5 Mustyfrog Ninian takes command of this tie picking up points for Rotherham's win, the late Agard goal and the correct number of points to outscore Musty who can only reply with a point for being within two of the card count. However, with only two points between the pair at the half way stage, Musty is far from out of this. Sayer77 3 - 3 Bluescull This tie is also a long way from conclusion as the contestants fail to beat each other. Sayer is once again a goal away from that elusive CS, this time being denied by Agard's goal. Bluescull was the only player to correctly get Preston's goalscorer but poorly backed a team that have not won a playoff comp in 9 attempts (!) and the pair cancel each other out with two points each. No breaks with Round 3 tomorrow!
Ninian Opinion 8 - 6 Mustyfrog Ninian continues to hold onto his two point advantage over Musty as both only collect points on the card count in the most difficult fixture to predict. That means it will come down to this afternoon's FA Cup Final, where Musty is in need of some points! Sayer77 5 - 5 Bluescull This tie remains level for the third match in a row despite Sayer successfully getting a hatrick of correct results he is evened out as Bluescull is the first person this year to hit the exact number of yellow cards. This too will go down to this afternoons final fixture, where one will hope to get the better of the other.
Cheers Swamp I can now reveal the final semi-finals scores and that both have been settled by a single point Ninian Opinion 11 - 10 Mustyfrog Arff, Musty does his best to reduce the two point gap with 4 points from a thrilling FA Cup final but Ninian manages to sneak this tie with points for the Arsenal win, Ramsey's stunning goal (which everyone predicted ) and a point for the cards. This is unlucky on Musty who came really close to beating Ninian over the four legs. Sayer77 9 - 8 Bluescull If it was harsh on Musty it was always going to tough on the loser of this tie as both went the final tie locked on 5 points each. Sayer just gets the better of Bluescull after guessing the exact number of cards to give him the single point advantage and a way into the final. First of all commiserations to our two losing semi - finalists, Mustyfrog and Bluescull, who have both given our finalists a good run for their money and on another day the story could be different, The 2014 BPPL Playoff Final with be contested on the 24th of May as - Ninian Opinion vs Sayer77 predict the outcome of Derby County vs QPR Good Luck
