I'm really getting quite pumped for this FA Trophy game on saturday, both teams have found their scoring boots just in time and even with Newcastle playing at home on the same day, the attendance should still be high.

Anyone who can't get a ticket for St James and lives locally should really be heading to Croft Park to witness pretty much the biggest fixture in the north east outside of Newcastle or Sunderland.

It promises to be a close game and I really can't call it. Gateshead are a pro outfit currently a league above Blyth but the Spartans have home advantage and are currently looking sharp.

Both sides are in astonishing form at the moment, Gateshead have won eight (drawn once) of their last ten games scoring 28 goals in the process, Blyth have won seven games (drawn twice) in their last ten matches and have scored 23 goals. Both teams have had rather mean defences over the same period, Heed and Spartans conceding six and seven goals respectively.

So it seems like something's got to give, two sides scoring for fun but tight at the back. Will it be a low-scoring slogfest or a Keegan-esque 5-4?

What are your predictions for this match and more importantly, who do you want to win? Time to nail your colours to the post! <ok>

I voted Gateshead, but if Durham were any good I'd have had the chance to vote for them ;).
Last season wasn't exactly the best for Durham, not sure if they even won a game and were relegated to the Northern Premier League Division One North, where they now currently sit in lower mid-table.

voted Gateshead for one reason I'm a Gateshead lad hope whoever wins this tie goes on to lift the trophy just a shame it couldn't have been the final.
think it'll be close 1-0 the heed.

Always had a soft spot for Blyth Spartans since 1978 (?) when they played Wrexham at SJP. Got locked out and spent the night in the Percy Arms. (I also play golf with the captain of the team at that time, John Waterson). <ok>

The only team for me is Newcastle United and the only fixture that matters this weekend is Newcastle United vs Bolton. Massive 3 points as will move us a step closer towards safety and above Bolton, but also revenge for that humiliating 5-1 defeat at the reebok stadium.

I'll be at the TOON game but if I wasn't I'd go to cheer the HEED on! Of course if it wasn't the HEED they were playing I'd be quite happy to cheer the Spartans on.

What's your Grandads name, I want curly hair too? I've probably seen him play before.

Was 2-3-5 in the 50's and the Callendar brothers took up two of the positions. Jimmy Woodburn ( ex TOON ) played left half for them for a while and a local guy called Brown, but can't remember anybody called Davis.

After to speaking to me mum he played centre-half, which was like centre midfield then right?
got a newspaper here from 2006 talking about the old ground, showing the squad picture of 1955 with him in it
not sure if he was a first-teamer or not mind :)

Tommy Callender was the regular centre half, was supposed to have been able to play for any team in the country if he'd wanted. Saw him block Nat Lofthouse ( The Lion of Vienna ) and the then England centre forward out of the game in a cup tie against Bolton.

Got a book here somewhere about Gateshead and Redheugh Park, it's packed with history and facts from the start of Gateshead FC. I'll look it up and post the findings in the near future.

Haven't been able to put my hand on it but it won't be too far away. I'll put something up when I find it.

I did find something called Gateshead Perambulations, a collection of stories from centuries ago. Some quite interseting little stories about Gateshead but not the Football Club.
