Ha ha!! Just watched the highlights on Saints Player, and at around 17 minutes Dave Merrington refers to Victor Anichebe as "the big black guy"! Had to listen again as thought I'd made a mistake. He definitely says it. Cracked me up!!
No don't be daft. Because someone would complain that there is no necessity in referring to the players skin colour etc. Or how about referring to Fellaini as the big white guy? Does that make sense to you? I'm not saying it is racist, just very unprofessional. Classic Merrington.
Christ almighty, so if you're watching a game and the commentator says something like, "the little black guy is running down the wing", thats perfectly normal, is it? **** no, course its not.
Is Fellaini white? I thought he was Arabic or something, he's paler than Anichebe for sure(!) but not sure he'd qualify as white. Have to say, I had a chuckle at Merrington too. Can't really argue he's wrong, or that it's racist, but it isn't something you often hear people say on the radio these days.
Fellaini is a Belgian with Moroccan parents. I would describe him as black, but mainly because of his hair (what is that about?).
I'm not one to do this, but, poor spelling. Still don't see the big deal about the 'big black guy' comment. People are far too sensitive these days.
