    Now, Xmas or May?

Sack Bruce now and the new manager has his back against the wall right from the off as he will be forced to work with this piss poor excuse of a premier league squad for the remainder of the season which could still result in relegation. The problem with this option is that the perception of a new manager coming in to change our fortunes may well wear off very quickly if the results don't improve and by the time May arrives, fans and players alike may no longer be as excited/motivated as what they would be if a new manager came in during the month of May. If the new manager struggles to change the results for the better during the remainder of this season it may impact the capacity to recruit the quality we need in the summer due to the general perception of the state of the club in the minds of proven premiership quality.

Sack Bruce at Xmas and the battle for survival could already be lost depending upon how poorly we perform over the next 3 months. However, the new manager will be able to bring in a left winger, left back, centre midfielder and a proven striker which might be enough to turn it around, perhaps to little to late? (I think we need another centre half now too, incredibly so...)

We leave it until May and we could already be facing life back in the championship and at that point we can forget about appointing a top class manager...

All in all, I would prefer to sack Bruce now and bring in an experienced short term motivator whose job it is to save us from relegation and then appoint a longterm replacement in May. I would suggest a Venables type character but I'm afraid Venables may have took one to many 'save the day jobs' to truely inspire the players. I cannot think of any shortterm managers that fits the bill...

If we appoint a new longterm manager now (that appears to be the only feasible option), it is possible that he could suffer badly due to this piss poor squad that we currently have and that may have a knock on effect in terms of ticket sales/player recruitment next summer.

One thing for certain is that we are in for a relegation battle with Bruce steering the ship so perhaps the only option is to make the change and hope that a new manager can perform some kind of a miracle with the squad that he inherits.

Do we wait until May and hope that the pie man can achieve 17th or appoint a new manager now and risk losing the feel good motivation factor that a new appointment in May would provide? I sincerely doubt that even Sir Alex could do much with this squad... and that is my biggest concern.

    Decisions decisions...

We're still only seven games into the season. Dalglish came in later at Liverpool and did very well. And we were six games into the season when Keane took over and won the Championship. So our season isn't necessarily a write-off yet. I think the sooner the better.

I'd agree with May but only if it was last May!

We have got to replace Bruce NOW, the sooner the better to give the new manager the best chance of success!

Its our only option IMO, leave it 5 6 games and it will be too late.

If we do this though it has to be someone good, a legend type figure that can motivate the players, someone they look up to!

Should have gone at the end of last season...So NOW would be a good time to get rid...get someone in who knows what they are doing.

4 games, and if we do ok, then a stay of execution until Dec 10th.

If we get a new manager in, it will have to be the calibre of Moyes. Oneil and Hughes dont cut it for me.

Wild card: Sven Eriksson. He managed to cope with the pressures of the England job, and has a good record as manager. Not sure of his style of play.
