Reading OLM's thread on Murray got me thinking; What is the best sport to reach the top in? For me it has to be out of football, formula 1, American gridiron (not 'football'), baseball (maybe) and tennis. All mainly because of money, but also the pulling power with the ladies!!! All make their stars incredibly rich, but only tennis and formula 1 allow them a certain amount of independance to travel the world without being tied down to one country. So for me it's out of those two, but because of the serious risks drivers have to take it would be tennis every time for me. I mean what could be better than being a mega-rich playboy who spends his time travelling around the exotic hot spots of the globe for the price of playing tennis?
I would have to go with Basketball, stupid money, would give me enough to get round the world whenever I wanted. Might be a slight disadvantage of being about 1.5 ft shorter than everyone else mind.
I think it depends on how marketable you are as a person. No doubt Murray will become world number one some point in the near future, will be start to become a brand soon after? Who knows.
You lot have some funny ideas. F1, football, golf blah blah blah. Darts every day of the week and you know it.
I would say Golf - careers seem longer too, and decent money for the top players. Even lower ranking players like East Yorks Richard Finch seem to carve a decent living out of it.
Probably poker because anybody with half a brain can get lucky and win a big tournament even the biggest
Gold seems to be where the serious dollar dollar is, plus John Daley and others have shown that you can eat what ever you like and drink like a fish and still be up at the top! Rory has scored a much better looking missus too, ticks all my boxes
Have to say downhill Skiing for me though, Traveling around all the best Ski resorts in the world staying in the best hotels getting treated like royalty. Might not make a household name out of you in the UK but in parts of Europe and the US it certainly would.
How could I forget darts?? I remember when Jockey Wilson had a bevvy of beaties like Thora Hird, Judy Dench and Dawn French after him - and he made enough money to get an extension on his council house.
I'm not having that as a sport. Any game I can legitimately compete in from the comfort of my own home with a laptop is not a sport ha
You're almost there, but it would have to be Dominoes for me. Lots of dosh in the side bets, the release of the shuffle and the suspense of the count; other attractions being open air or indoors, drinks under the table and the 'Magic Spin' that mesmerizes the ladies .
I compete with my flatmates when we decide what we are watching on Tele? Is that a sport? If it is I think I might be at the top of it.
Baseball, same reasons as basketball but without worrying about height, also really stupid money & you don't have to be good at it.
I'd love to play Test Cricket. Going to play your sport and stay in the best hotels in Australia, South Africa, all over the Caribbean, New Zealand, he UAE (now you can't play in Pakistan), Sri Lanka, India. It's not bad pay surely either for top class cricket. Yes there are better paid sports.
