i remember, many years ago alan mullery connecting with a corner on the edge of his own area and the ball flying into the top corner and the crowd went crazy, it was the early 70's i think he was in his second period with fulham at the time.
The one that sticks in my mind was one I saw on Tyne Tees in the 70's, the Smoggies against the Scum. The Ball gets put into the box from the right wing about 35 yards out and the Mags CB, Glen Keeley (I think?) running back towards his box comes flying in with a diving header and connects just inside the penalty box. The ball travels at supersonic speed into the top right hand corner of the net with the keeper (McFaul?) flat footed looking on. Couldn't stop laughing for hours, and even now the memory returns and creases me when I think back to that look on their faces. Oh happy days
Man City Defender (name eludes me at this present minute) he runs back & beats their foward to the ball by flicking the ball over their forwards head (facing his own goal) tries to head it back to the keeper but it just lobs him. Darlington a few years ago the ball is dropping from a height bowt 6 yards out from his goal tries to volleyt it clear but it smashes him in the face and goes in.
Someone is going to have to help me out....I do vaguely remember a youngster could be ten years ago now....only had a few games....scored two own goals and deflected another into our goal....I wasn't at the match but can remember watching it.....like I said....vaguely... Anyone remember?!
Proctor was class, didnt he almost score the third too before that guy who played up front for Charlton, the one who scored in the play off final, eventually put it in the net
I can't remember who scored it but we were away to Hull in the Championship, or the 1st Division or the 2nd Division whatever they called it then. A City defender headed the ball into his own net. It was the type of header any striker would've been proud of.
....I was high up but right in line.... May 5th Wembley Stadium 1973... ......Porter sticks it in.........
