Not only that, but he's happy to be a squad player I saw a quality comment on the BBC live feed about him today: "Watch the Man U fans start proclaiming Berbatov as the best striker in the league." Err, no, he's our fourth choice striker so he can't be the best in the league. But he's still better than Carroll, Bellamy, Gervinho, Bendtner, Torres, Kalou, Defoe, Pavlyuchenko and a whole lot of other third and even second choice PL strikers. Yet more happy days
Just hope he signs a new contract and that he plays a bit more. He should start against Blackburn. Remember the last time he started against them at Old Trafford?
To be honest mate, I'm happy whoever starts up front for us at the moment. We've got Rooney, Nani, Hernandez, Welbeck and Berbatov all in good form, and one of those always pops up with a goal for us, often more than one. It's a good situation to be in, given our injury problems at the back. In fact, we haven't failed to score in a single match this season, so provided we can get Jones and Smalling back ready for Blackburn I reckon we'll be going great
Berbatov is just a likable person IMO, and some of the things he can do with the ball are out of this world, but like Ivor said, he isn't consistent. At the moment we have Welbeck, Hernandez, Rooney, Nani, and Berbatov who can play up top at the moment, and they're all in form would most likey start if they were on any other team in the PL with exception of City. (maybe arsenal too, as they play with 1 striker and Van Persie is the best striker in the World right now). Still think Welbeck and Rooney are the best partnership available at the club though, would like to see Berb and Welbeck start a game up top though.
Trouble is Rooney might go 5 games without scoring, then score in 5 games in a row. Berbs might go 5 games without scoring then score 4 goals in one match. His skill might be undoubted but to seriously challenge you need someone who can get the goals consistently and imo Hernandez is the best at doing that.
To be fair, Rooney has clustered his goals just as much as Berb this season. Of his 13 league goals, eight of them have been hattricks or braces in games we have completely dominated. And to be honest that's no bad thing imo. We have four strikers and Nani who all offer different types of threat. So it's not like Arsenal or Liverpool, where if you can neutralise RVP or Suarez you can take away a lot of the attacking threat. If you set your defence up to tackle Rooney then Hernandez, Berb or Welbeck will be able to hurt you, and vice versa if you set up to stop any of the others. The net result is at least one of our strikers is likely to get on the scoresheet and often gets more than one. They're even more effective when they come off the bench - look at the Liverpool game. Liverpool spend 75 minutes keeping Welbeck out of the game, then on comes Hernandez and scores within five minutes. We did the same against Bolton last year when Berb came off the bench to score a late winner.
this year, with his bit-part role, berb has scored a goal every 62 minutes if its all averaged out. Rooney gets one every 107 and chicharito 1 every 132. Probably been a bit distorted by the hat-trick though
back to 'dims' i hope we extend his contract because he's such a fabulous back-up to have and he seems content with his role
