So fellow Tigers fans, please list your apologies for the crap I took earlier this season regarding our 'prolific' striker Aaron 'The Barn Door' Mclean. Since I posted my warnings about our misfiring hero, he has been frequently subbed on the hour mark, and that has now morphed into warming the bench. Can any of you who sing his praises tell me why?.....No? Well let me enlighten you. He has scored THREE goals, yes THREE. Two of those were real 'screamers' against Scunthorpe. Well, they weren't really, just cant miss tap in's. He is ineffective, is not a shadow of his 'strike' partner Fryatt, and is very much like ***an, runs around a lot with no end product. Today, I would not have believed it if I hadnt seen it with my own eyes. THAT miss was utterly utterly disgraceful. I cant wait to watch it again on the FLS tonight. Was I right earlier when I said he wouldn't score many more this season? Damned right I was. Your humble apologies will be graciously accepted. Have a nice day.
Granted Mclean was not very good at finishing today but come on, his work rate has been faultless since arriving. I cannot also believe that you consider ***an having no end product. Obviously Newcastle Away, Bolton Away and Fulham at home to mention 3 games passed you by during our first season in the Premier League. I for one am a little bit disappointed that he has not been offered another deal along with Garcia.
"However, sources say a new deal has been offered to winger Richard Garcia, which the Australian international is currently considering." - The Hull Daily Fail
Today? I don't think I've witnessed him have a realistic shot on target since he joined us, all he's managed is to pass it to the keeper from 25 yards or miss the target, and that's only when he's managed to have a 2nd touch that isn't a tackle. ***an thinking he's a striker is laughable, he doesn't score often enough. As a right winger Garcia is better and for the wages ***an will want we can get much better value looking at a younger player either permanent or on loan that can cover Garcia or surprise us and be a quality replacement for him. I'll thank both players for their efforts (particularly ***an in previous years), it's nothing personal with them, but I'm quite happy to see ***an go, and if he could take McLean with him I wouldn't be upset either. ***an I think the previous seasons efforts have more than paid his fee back, but McLean I think we've wasted our money (NP and co still have an incredible hit rate, some things just don't work) and we could do much better for the money we'll be paying them in wages than what they're offering us.
Sorry probably my grammar, I am aware Garcia got a deal, thought ***an deserved a pay as you play deal at the very least.
I've never really rated McLean as a top Championship striker, but you're being incredibly harsh. If you actually went to the games he played in (or took any notice), you would see the guy's work rate is phenomenal. The partenership him and Fryatt formed was strong and dangerous at first, but just because they haven't combined like they did in the last few games, it doesn't mean that McLean suddenly becomes a bad player. At Swansea playing the two of them wasn't working; obviously McLean gets the chop as Fryatt is our top scorer. He was dropped today as the end team played so well at the Liberty. As for today's miss, it was utterly embarassing. He needed that really to gain some self-confidence back, but I still think he can do a good job for us. Have to say retrieving his place in the XI will be some feat after Simpson and Fryatt played so creatively as a two this afternoon - albeit against the worst defence I have seen this season. There will be no humble apology I'm afraid FBTW
Too many idiots slagging off their own players on here and elsewhere, so he missed a chance, so what, do you think criticising him and saying he's not good enough will boost his confidence? If he's not up to it Pearson will get rid, and as he signed him and he's been playing regularly he's obviously not that bad. Poor lad needs a break that's all, and I hope he comes back and rams your ignorant words down your throat!
Why the **** would anyone post an article, slagging one of our players, just after our best home performance of the season? It was a bad miss, he's not the best player in the world, but it was a brilliant collective performance and no-one deserves to get slated tonight.
He's been a poor signing. Admitting that is less idiotic than making them uncriticisable just because they're our players. For Christ's sake, he cost us 26 times the amount we gambled on Simpson even though he's older than and had demonstrated no more ability at this level than JS had. NB: I'm not saying he's completely **** as a player. He was worth a try (though not at that price) and it's not worked out, he's just a top L1 striker and we should accept that. As we want to be a club competing at the top end of the Championship and getting into the PL he's not good enough for us.
I think most of us think Mclean is probably not up to the job, I just question the tone and timing of this article, it's a little unnecessary in my opinion.
I really like Mclean. He's fast and causes a lot of problems for defences, I just wish he was another foot taller. Simpson did enough today to earn his place in the starting XI. Mclean should be used like he was today, bring him on in the last 15 mins to have a run around. However we already have TWF's favourite player and club legend Nicky Barmby to do that.
No apologies from me seeing as I never gave you crap, we're all entitled to our opinion, even TWF (sometimes). People will talk about his work ethic but when it produces absolutely **** all what does it matter? He's basically ***an with a bit more strength. I'll probably take some crap for this as well but I wouldn't be too fussed if I didn't see him again. Not because of his miss today but that he is simply not good enough. We failed in our attempts to sign Craig Mackhail-Smith and Charlie Austin, got desperate for more strikers (as we basically had Simpson in bad form along with Cullen and Folan) and overspent on a poor striker. In all fairness though, out of the many top signings Nige and Walsh have made, we were always going to have one bad egg.
It was a terrible miss, luckily for Mclean it didn't affect the result of the game. But, the guys only human and won't always get everything right. I felt for him after the miss and having a go at him won't boost his confidence. We need everyone behind the players and management team at the moment, making scapegoats and jumping on players backs isn't going to help anyone.
He's a valuable member of the squad, and offers a different style of attacking play to Simpson and Fryatt. I sit in front of a chap at the KC and ever since we have been their he ****ing moans about everything, he could be a professional at it. Sadly this is a reflection of many fans at the Kc, not happy unless moaning or jumping on players backs. It's not beneficial to the club in any way!
If we think back to just before Christmas everyone on hear was slating Simpson for his performances and lack of goals but now everyone has changed their tune.Simmo took time to bed inand so will Mclean, neither of them have had good service and it may take a while before we see the best of Mclean. Just be patient!!
For me, that was the big difference today, I can't remember a single one of the clueless numpties around me complaining about anything.
