There is a plan beyond throw away time killing. What are your top five bands? It's difficult to nail down because tastes depend on mood but I reckon mine are as follows:- 1) Radiohead - evolving, creative, thought provoking. All time favourites. 2) Interpol - been in a minimal crowd at Reading wondering why they're not huge. Minimal crowd interaction explains a bit but they play well and lyrically superb. 3) Beta Band (plus Aliens,King Biscuit Time, Lone Pigeon and any other offshoots). Underrated but immense. 4) Flaming Lips - their live shows put a smile on your face and their albums stand out for great originality and listenability. 5) Arcade Fire - just amazing and playing by their own rules. Honourable mentions go to the Maccabees, Pink Floyd, REM, Jimi Hendrix, Beck and so many more that occupy such a large part of my CD collection and still give me so much enjoyment.
Dont reallty like live music and prefer Dj's. But I used to work for showsec at Wembly and saw some good concerts..... So, Id go.. UB40 Genisis Pink Floyd Simply Red and Pink.
Very difficult to name any five simply because there are so many to choose from and I like so many different types of music, I'll throw in five names which are probably my most listened to but they can change on a mood... Jimi Hendrix Led Zeppelin Queen Pink Floyd Deep Purple There are so many more I could list that are as good but that's just my preference today. I'd also mention Mozart who wrote so many incredible pieces of work at such a young age, true genius...
In no particular order: REM - 1st musical love - genius - I never get bored. Red hot chili peppers - with frusciante on guitar - sensational. Pearl jam - there's nothing they've done that I don't love. Radiohead - intelligent, thoughtful, moody, awesome. Counting crows - when I 1st heard August and everything after playing through the speakers of a bondi beach hostel, I did momentarily wonder of I had died and was now listening the the music of the heavens.
In no particular order: Queen Pink Floyd Deep Purple ELO (I know!!) Any scar (Madness/The Specials/Bad Manners)
Steel Panther - The most offensive band ever but very funny Trivium Fear Factory Rob Zombie Rammstein
Well all your bands are 70s bands! Genius! You must remember 80s music. Dont listen with kids around.
Thing is I hate the 80s musically and I do think that the 70s were the best decade by a mile. I could list another 5 from the 70s soul scene alone!
Shalamar? george benson? Macia and the Macks...........? Soul Weekenders, Caister , Barry Island, Prestatyn....?....
Again in no particular order The Counting Crows - they must be the QPR of the rock world. Genesis (Peter Gabriel era, not Phil Collins' backing band) Deep Purple (Mark II) Pink Floyd (post Syd Barrett) U2 - Early to middle
While growng up in the back streets of Fulham during my school years of the 80's my friends brother ran the security of Hammersmith Odeon. I therefore had the pleasure of seeing some of the groups thatI would never of had the pleasure of seeing..so with that in mind, instead of presenting you with a list of bands you have never heard of...I give you this... 1. Madness... they did a matinee concert and the first gig that I attended aged 14. 2. Gary Numan 3. UB40 4. The Cult 5. Kool and the Gang Although I have been to many concerts since. These are the groups and songs that define who I am today. And there are hundreds my friends..literally hundreds. Icluding Wham, U2, The Jam , The Stones, The Stone Roses, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, OMD ,A-Ha, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd, Belinda Carlisle, The Stranglers, The Who, Texas, The Clash, Springsteen, Madonna, Sophie B Hawkins, The Stranglers, Dylan, and many others. Good times. I love live music.
