Have to say the back four played well today against a very very good wolves side. I thought Williams had a very very good game with excellent tackleing and distribution. Wolves have some top quality in that side. JET is different class what a player, fantastic to watch. Him and the Wolves player sako were different gravy. I have to say whoever finishes above Wolves will be heading to the championship. We seem to be a second half team today we were men against boys first half, yet second half we dominated the game. 1 point from 9 is concerning, but we look like a side that will get better as time goes by. I would like to see JET sit behind Baldock and Harwood, let him run at defences with the added bonus of useing the two men sat in front of him. To me Baldock and jet are to far apart for baldock to benifit and cause havoc.
If there was a Wolves player to stand out today it was Sako - a level of trickery approaching that of JET, but greater athleticism. A stunning free-kick for the 1st goal, and a brilliantly disguised cross for the second - without him we'd probably be celebrating a City win today. Fingers crossed someone else will sign him .
went horse today shouting to push sako i nside on his 'swinger' right foot, but we never did and he was a danger all game! JET was outstanding again, i thought Williams looked good, seeing as he's had very little football, with game time and fitness should be quality IMO
JET stood out again and deservedly got Man of Match. Williams did well and was harshly booked I thought. Did well enough to suggest that Fontaine can sit on the bench a little longer. 2nd half we were a different team and it was good to see Baldock using his pace, which I think will trouble lesser teams than Wolves= Fielding had a better game and pulled off some good saves, he was saved some embarrassment at the end when their guy missed an open goal after his mistake- Kilkenny was lucky to stay on the pitch as long as he did, somehow at one poiunt passing a harmless ball out for a corner 35 yards from his own goal- After my comment last week about waiting tioll half time to make a change, credit to SOD for making a brave decision so early in the game.
"credit to SOD for making a brave decision so early in the game" I'm sorry I cant believe he keeps picking him in the first place..!!!
Reasons to be cheerful .We have a growing collection of young talent at last, which will get better as they gain experience. .Fielding showed that we didnt in fact waste our money on him, like I thought we might have. But he does need to show more consistency. .JET is finally doing himself and his ability justice, and its in the red shirt of City .SOD is not resorting to preaching depressing hoofball, even though we are not raking in the points just yet .Williams looks like he may save us having to fork out for another centre back. .We are more than capable of winning our next 2 games .We have a proper cup tie against Premiership Palace to look forward to Reason to be disquieted .We dont seem to have a plan B, attackwise .We need to start picking up points .We need to hit a level of consistency as a team .We are still flirting with players who have proved unreliable and brought us relegation. This needs to end. .We need to give Burns a run in the team, as left midfield. He is our next creative source
Square pegs in square holes! While Burns is still very young and first team wise totally inexperienced, with his pace, he would be able to run defenders ragged if used as a last 20 minutes sub. And Bryan gives us pace and balance on the left, plus his defensive attributes if we're trying to defend a lead successfully for a change. Oh boy are we missing Liam Kelly! As for the rest of midfield I don't mind how SO'D lines it up 3-5-1 / 4-4-2 / 4-3-3 so long as he finally sees what we've all seen for the last two/three seasons. That certain players, forget whether we "like" them or not because liking a player is not a prerequisite for a place in the team, are not consistent enough and not able to up their game enough to make any real contribution to our game.
Bad time to play Wolves because the chances are Sako and Doyle will not be there after 31 August. I think we have the basis of a decent side, all be it with one or two additions before the window shuts (or in the loan market). Would like to see a bit of pace in the side?
I'm still a little worried about Fielding? Altough it was a fabulous free kick I have to blame him for the goal as his positioning of the wall was bad (to say the least) there was a gaping hole in it and one wolves player walked through it in disbelief, just before the kick to check that we were being that stupid. Also he made one of his dashes out of his box again. OK so made some good saves, but needs to improve. Thought Bryan had a good game, couldn't understand why he was dropped for Coventry game, should now deserve a good run in the side. Also would have brought on Bobby Reid not Elliott in second half. Other than that a positive loss. If SOD learns the lesson about Kilkenny!!??
