Personally am quite happy with the (probable) signing of Obertan. Not a world beater (yet) but certainly an improvement on the likes of Routledge.

But the attitude of some of the fans on here and the likes of twitter is crass. It has got to the point now that only the signing of Messi , Fabregas and Rooney by the current regime would satisfy some people.

I have no great love for this regime , will not buy any merchandise while he is in charge and pick and chose my matches , but i feel that the buys we have made this summer including Obertan are along the right lines and agree with the policy of no longer paying fortunes for over inflated egos.

Fans have to remember we are no longer a top draw for the best players at the moment and to get anyone to come here given the current venomous feelings in some parts is a bloody miracle. Would you come if you were a player with no obvious allegiance to NUFC?

We have to hope that sometime the current regime will move on sooner rather than later but in the meantime a dose of realism is called for.

At the very least it's another player, and it gives the team a little bit of cover should Barton actually leave or get injured.

Hope this isn't the last signing though, still need another CB, and LB cover (regardless of whether Enrique leaves or not).

Aslong as Shola still gets a game I dont mind who we bring in.

Seriously though I agree with what your saying in general but with the money we have in the kitty we could be looking to bring in a slightly better player, and we should be looking for a striker not a winger.

I would be happy if money was invested into the places we need it but it's not, and until it is I'll probably continue to moan. Sue me.

There's no pleasing them, especially since they're usually ignorant to actual football talent outside of England (such as Cabaye), and have no grasp on the financial side of the game.

We know he is a talent, we want a striker and not midfielders. I would be happy with Long.

Not being funny but for me Routledge is a better player then Obertan, though I will be pleased if he proves me wrong, especially I nearly always seem to be wrong on players. As for Cabaye not seen him play but heard good things about him, and same could probably be applied to the other signings we've made.

Yes, but why get rid of Carroll Nolan Barton to replace it with these French fancies? Wheres the logic seeing as the heartbeat of our success over the past year or so has been good old fashioned British grit, determination, passion, desire with a lot of talent.

If they had 'Added' to what we had last season then I would agree with you. But to 'Replace' is mental.

Obertans not an out and out winger anyway though, he'd fit perfectly in a three man attacking midfield with Jonas and Ben Arfa behind a striker. Quick with a decent eye for goal, exactly the type of player we needed really for the right hand side.

I think more people need to get on board with Ashleys plans for Newcastle United and be happy with Premier League survival - stop any silly day dreams of success because we're simply buying hand-me-down players that haven't made it a 'big clubs'. Be grateful that Mike Ashley sees fit to keep our club afloat considering the massive debt that we're in to him.

    Be told.

He's fast and seems to have skill, but he does seems very inconsistent and has a **** first touch!

Maybe he made the big step up too early in his career (like Forlan) and the pressures got to him, only time will tell..

    This.

I hope he is only bought as total back-up winger, behind Jonas, Marvel and Barton.

If the Mackems were on the verge of signing him we'd all be over there posting the <party> smiley.

    Don't be a helmet. <ok>

Barton wants to be here, he's a cut above anyone we've signed and we're forcing him out of the club on a free.

The thing is, though, he isn't. He got very few chances at Man United but has obvious talent. Just needs a tad more confidence and direction in how to use his ability and he'll be a top player. I'm pleased with the signing.
