Yeah, there are a number of players who have been rather badly out of form for many weeks after returning from COVID. I'm not sure that's coincidental, and if choosing between that or Ings having given up on the team as the most likely culprit, I know where my money would go.

    Ings off to City then!

I can't see that happening but I would swap him for Aguero any time.

Interestingly if and when we sell Danny, Liverpool have a 20% sell on clause.

Just saw that - this would explain Ralph saying he expects Ings to see out his contract either way.

If all we can get for him is £20m, we'd actually only get £16m - arguably not even worth selling him for £16m

Just imagine if Saints had done the same when we sold Bale! :-(

Ings just doesn't really seem like a City signing and I'm really struggling to believe this story. I may be completely wrong, but my guess would be that this is either total bullshit from a journo looking for clicks, or it's been fed by the agent.

The agent may be trying to pressure us into increasing our offer or changing stance on the release clause, or they may be trying to generate more interest in Ings and encouraging more clubs to come forward. But I really don't believe City's interest. If they don't get Haaland they'll go for Ings? Come on!

A fit Danny Ings is an excellent player. Very, very good. At Saints. He has to play all the time he is fit and therefore tires and/or breaks down more easily. At City, he’d not play every game but wouldn’t start most of games and thus not tire so quickly or breakdown so much.

    In theory

Probably won't be long until the press are trying their hardest to sell JWP to a top six club, but with a contract until 2025, we'd get a very big fee if anyone came in for him.

Obviously I don't want us to sell any key players, but history's not really on our side for that. Hypothetically, would you rather sell Ward-Prowse for a big fee and keep Ings, or sell Ings for a moderate fee and keep JWP?

Already started, Hoddle said the other week JWP would fit perfectly at spurs.
And some journalist (whose name escapes me) said Liverpool should sign him.

Love JWP, think he's great for us in terms of his professionalism, his history with us and his application. But I'm just not sure he's good enough to attract one of the top 6 clubs. Maybe I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time, but I just don't see it. Same with Ings tbh given his age, injury record and recent drop in form. The reason why I see Ings as more likely to go are, that he clearly is quite keen to explore his options, his contract is nearly up and a big club might see him as a low risk back up striker at £20/25m which is pocket change to them. Though more fool Ings if he leaves to be a back up imo.

I agree IMO, Ings fits us as does JWP.

Sometimes players fit. Will they fit elsewhere? Maybe. Maybe not.

    Ask Morgan.

The only thing stopping Danny becoming one of the top strikers anywhere he goes, is fitness. He’d score goals in any system.

Ralph has more or less built a team around JWP. Don’t think he’d get that anywhere else. Question is, how much does he want a big move, and is he prepared to end up at Brighton if it doesn’t work out?

Guess the question is: what does not working out look like? Because I'm guessing that Lallana would consider his move to have worked out awfully well. Regular starter for Liverpool for a few years (and 178 matches overall), CL and PL winner's medal, got paid a boatload of money. Most of our players would be delighted to be such a cautionary tale.
