Yep, the first session on the second day against the new ball will be pivotal, England could either end up skittled for less than 300 or rack up 400+. A first innings score of around 320 and it`s still anybody`s game.
Heard someone say during commentary yesterday, a lot of cricket nations prepare pitches that suit the home bowlers when they play Australia. But apparently the same doesn't apply when other nations visit Australia, are they giving a sporting chance of plain naivety? Thoughts?
Good comeback from the England bowlers. Get Smith early and it's game on. Are we sure this is even true. In the Lillee and Thompson days the ball used to come flying through pretty hastily and Shane Warne always had a turning pitch to display his skills. I am not expert enough to say if the suggestion is correct on the whole, but I would be interested in knowing if they do prepare non advantageous pitches. I strongly doubt it.
It is still pretty even. But two worrying things from today. 1. Another batting collapse losing 6'for 50 odd. 2. Smith getting runs - and set to get big runs. If he makes 150+, England could be in big trouble. Nobody in the England team pushed on and made big runs; Smith does it regularly.
Steve Smith is a quality batsman, even with such an ugly and strange technique, England need rid of him quickly.
Wow! What an afternoon's play - Steve Smith Bradmanesque performance. Everything the bowlers threw at him he had a response. 2nd innings Cook fluffs his lines again edit: while I was typing Vince gets out, game slipping away unless Root can play a similar knock to Smith
All down to Root now. England need 300 Woakes and Ball didn't do much. Combined Broad and Anderson took 5-99, the rest 5-229
