Cutting back non productive jobs and services would be a saving. Pension is a benefit, so why didn’t they get the 7.2% increase benefit claimants got? Which was more than pensioners got under the triple lock. No need for a triple lock if we had decent state pensions like other countries.
Other countries pay more into their pensions and can't opt out of the workplace ones like you can here .

The massive cioss in Britain are The Pension Benefit ,Benefits ,NHS , Education !
Now how do you square that with Tax cuts ?
Stop the Triple Lock ?
Tighten up on PIP .
Get the 3.34 million people that are currently looking for work into the 684,000 available jobs thus lowering the burden .
Cut back services and jobs thus again reducing tax revenue ?
My favourite grifters were WASPI. A bunch of well-off biddies pleading poverty and outrage because they were too thick to check the state pension age for 20 years.

Will you take your state pension when it comes your time or will you deduct the triple lock part and send it back.

The pension in this Country does not stand up against many European countries,we're mid table.

They pay more into it .
To match the state pension you would need a pension pot for a retired couple of over £600,000.
You do know that the state pension is pay as you go don't you ?
And if I reach state pension age I won't be sat there whining and whining that it's whatever Government that's in at the times fault .
If most pensioners have lived their lives right they will have paid off their house and the £2,100 they get per year plus whatever savings they have will mean a comfortable amount to live on

In which case people will take minimum minimum wage jobs all their life and rent a property so the state makes up the rest.

Those people that paid off their mortgages are saving you tax, as you don't have to fund them half as much as you would if they were living on other benefits during retirement. I know several people that worked that out, and are doing quite nicely in retirement on benefits relative to someone just on state pension.

Not something I would want to do voluntarily .
I don't have much in private pension think it's around 70 ISH but that's my fault for pudding tens of thousands of pounds up the wall I won't be blaming the government of the time .
Eventually something will have to give.

Yes,I've paid as I've went for 50 years and can see no reason why I shouldn't be rewarded for it.I never paid into private pensions,I was too busy bringing up 4 children and my pension contributions went on the dining table.

As for pensioners who have 'lived their lives right',what do you mean right? You are aware that there are a lot of people in the U.K who rent properties either from the Council of private landlords and don't have a pot to p!ss in,were they all wrong then?

Why is it always more tax rather than more efficiency and less wasteful spending?
More efficiency in governmental organisations all over the world generally means that taxpayers pay for private management consultants to tell them that the lowest paid, most essential jobs are unnecessary, which they then cut back with redundancies and reduced investment, resulting in worse services, and then use the money saved to pay for more management consultants and the cycle continues.

I wouldn't disagree, but that is simply an example of further waste, rather than a reason not to reduce waste rather than increase taxes.

If you are mainly relying on a state pension, you should look a bit more deeply into things, unless you think you want to and are going to be able to work for ever.

There will always be people who can't or won't buy a house .
65% of pensioners own their own home and should have it paid off by rights .
I'm now in my 60s and earn well below average wage
I live in an ex council house and will have it paid off by state pension age so you are talking to somebody who has 3 kids and missus only ever worked casual and part time jobs .

Without the triple lock, based on what you have said, you are liable to be living in relative poverty for your retirement.

Someone who has never paid in will be far better off than you, and cost the state more. That scenario is the likely outcome of what you are advocating for.

Is that really what you worked for?
