Well, in a sense, no one is a natural goalscorer, but I take your point. Mankind did not evolve to put balls of leather into nets..! :)

Put it this way... It is entirely possible that Pelle has been played his whole career, upto the last 3 or 4, in a way that hasn't maximised his goalscoring potential. I'll cite one of your examples from another post, Rickie Lambert, who for several years never had an impressive goalscoring record. Then suddenly he was played in the right manner for him. In fact, the two careers have definite similarities.

The right manner for Lambert was to play up front rather than in midfield, which obviously would improve his chances of scoring goals.

Indeed. What I'm suggesting is, is that footballers can play nearly all their careers in the wrong position or the team can be set up wrong so that their attributes are not maximised. I think it's an interesting thought.

I think Austin is worth the gamble. When we play against 2 banks of 4, we struggle to make clear cut chances, and those we do create are too often wasted.
I think Austin would finish more of those chances off, if they were to fall to him.

Personally, although we still need a more natural scorer, I'm still in the camp that supports the need for better attacking midfield players, in both the creative and goal scoring sense.

A Mane-Austin-Jay Rod frontline with a playmaker behind could score a goal or two...

.

Really? I thought it was exactly that or watching other more evolved members of mankind doing that. The only other thing I can think of would involve womankind or a strong liquid that did things to your head that some clever and more evolved member of mankind had brewed/invented.

****, perhaps I'm not as evolved as I thought I was :)

As we had one of the best defenses in the league. A strikers performance against us this season would be a decent indicator.

When comparing Ings, Austin, Kane & Berahino(young n English) I would say Austin impressed me most and that came with an Ings bias.

At Loftus Rd he worked hard and looked a threat and his finish at St Mary's was excellent.
He also has a pretty decent delivery and has made a few assists this term.

Austin is definitely a player who would offer us something which we don't already have
