Nice little piece in the Telegraph detailing the 20 fiercest rivalries in our league - Cardiff City vs Swansea City coming out as the fiercest. It doesn't look at how 'big' or worldwide the game is, but most importantly the reasons behind the rivalry. An interesting little read on a quiet afternoon. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/picturegalleries/11197636/The-20-fiercest-rivalries-in-English-football-by-Jonathan-Liew.html (Originally posted by "Andrew - North Hill" on the SCFC2 Guestbook - Post 43244 - http://www.scfc2.co.uk/GuestBook.aspx)
Ha ha. Loved this line about the Swansea Cardiff thing: "It's the perfect rivalry: heartfelt, meaningful and completely off its head."
In the comments someone from the North East thinks the Tyne-Wear Derby is the most fierce!! Oh the poor uneducated soul! So fierce that Sunderland fans freely walk the Newcastle streets and vice versa, so fierce!
Have been to a liverpool everton derby and it has nothing compared to swans cardiff derby match. the weymouth dorchester derby was feistier..
I love Weymouth - great little town. Fond memories of vising my relatives there when I was a kid. They used to have a wooden slide (yes I know- splinters!) off the end of the pier going into the sea. Loved it.
I lived for 6 years in weymouth and i use to work on the poundbury estate there in Dorchester 10 miles away, I loved every moment and use to go and support weymouth when they were at home. I worked with a couple of players and whenever they were about to play dorchester there was an extra buz about the town. One year the swans had a pre season friendly against them and i wore my swans scarf to the game. there was not many swans fans mainly ex pats and the players came over to see us. I was chuffed to bits. we won the match in front of a decent crowd ,,,,Happy days and a great place to live...
