Relagated tonight. I cannot think of another team that has won the fa cup and be relagated from the top division in the same season. 72 hours what a difference in emotions.
I can remember seeing Wigan at Ashton Gate for the first time and I believe we beat them 4-0, and I can remember thinking to myself what the hell is this lot doing anywhere near the Football League? It was bucketing down with rain and the shortass from the far flung north next to me smelled of bear and sweat and made the atmosphere somewhat full of bad odours. I often wonder whether he is still on this planet watching his beloved team up there in the smoke and grime but I tell you what - his team has outpaced and outplayed us over the years and shown the footballing world what life is really all about. Dave Whelan deserves great respect for what he has done for his home town, and I wish him and the team a swift return to the Premiership because they, unlike another team I know, deserve their hard earned success.
No they went down the year later I think. I did hear on TV the other day when Wigan won that no team has ever done this.
