How do we feel about how the season is going? Personally I feel very happy with the progress so far. Only managed to make 2 home games so far and in those games I feel we've equipped ourselves well. The Cheltenham match was more difficult than I think many people expected but we were only really put under pressure when we went a man down. Still this time last season we would have crashed and burned under that pressure. The Plymouth game was probably the best time to play them and we were never under any real threat from them. Away from home we've picked up 4 points from 3 games I would certainly have taken that at the start of the month. Unfortunately there are still a few issues that are unlikely to be addressed like a lack of pace all over the team, lack of strikers and a lack of any real width. The new signings are looking good which is great and I have been very impressed with Kedwell. Working up top on your own is a very difficult job and he's doing it as well as I've ever seen lone striker do. He will surely benefit from a good strike partner, if only fate hadn't of hit us with Birchall's cruel injury in pre season. One thing I was worried about preseason was our capability to last the match but this hasn't been so. If we can carry on consistently performing we should be up there come the end of the season. Comparing the progress to this time last season there has been a massive improvement. Well done to all the team. I'll happily take 3 wins a draw and a loss in every 5 games. UTG
I think we have done better than what I expected, however, to do well, then brings expectations itself. So it was quite disappointing to lose to Rotherham by 3-0 and wipe away our goal difference at the same time, probably more disappointing than the loss. We now have two home games to come and rebuild confidence and strength that we have this season as a team. Whilst you mention progress on last season, if you look back on last seasons stats, at the likes of promotion winners Chesterfield and Wycombe in comparison, Chesterfield had only one more point at this stage and Wycombe had two points less. Whilst on the subject of stats, Chesterfield suffered the same fate as us, by losing their first game of that season at Rotherham (eight games in). So the next two games, will tell how far we have come as a team, Shrewsbury will be a tough test and to take 3 points from them, will prove we will have put the Rotherham defeat behind us and that we are to be serious promotion contenders this season. Just one small matter to deal with now - Hessy and Scally hopefully have one final signing to complete before the end of this week, to prove this season we are not messing about and that we really can do things the easy way for a change...pleeeease.
think we would have taken the point total at this stage of the season but not the way they have come. conceding in the 94 min at barnet although prob deserved was worrying, but hopefully that will be our one for the season. secondly our second half display against rotherham espically against the after we conceded the first (even if it was our throw). oh well 4-6 points from the 2 home games and a new striker be it on loan or short term then i think we will all be very happy
