11 Jul, 2011 - Turkey football chairman jailed Fenerbahce Chairman Aziz Yildirim has been has been jailed pending trial for match-fixing Turkey's football league champions. In an investigation that has shocked fans and placed one of the country's most popular institutions under unaccustomed scrutiny, it was revealed that Yildirim, amongst other executives, has match-fixed 19 first and second tier games. The Fenerbahce Chairman was escorted by police officers from a hospital last week. Earlier today, the Turkish police launched further raids, with the Chairman of last season's runner-up Trabzonspor, and a former Head of Turkey's football federation also detained. Turkey champions Fenerbahce now risk being relegated and stripped of the prestigious title. However, the club has rejected the allegations against its executives. Mr Yildirim has also rejected the claims, citing biased reporting and the media's use of his police mug shots. Notably, Fenerbahce fans protested against the court's decision in streets near its Istanbul stadium on Sunday
