Mark Halsey for me was such a bad ref that I always thought he was dodgy. There is no way IMO anyone can spend 20 years being a ref but still be that terrible at it. I don't think he was ever fit enough to be a ref either and im glad the cheating **** has retired.

This board will be in trouble if it is seen to be libelling someone ...you need to hope that Halsey is not reading this thread...<ok>

    Opinions aren't actionable as defamation.

lol, the 100% accuracy rate from you continues....Halsey was widely regarded as one of the best PL referees, his first game back after his cancer treatment was at Goodison & he got a fantastic reception, as he's both a nice bloke & a good ref.

If I write a piece in a paper or a blog saying that in my opinion Joe Bloggs is a cheating **** , taking bribes to do this and that because there is no way he could be truly that bad ...are you saying I cannot be sued? Nice to know the right answer. Are there some legal eagles amongst the posters here?

Halsey has come out and said refs need help off the pitch otherwise there could be a suicide. This has come in the wake of refs no longer being able to receive a supportive text off SAF. <ok>

An 'opinion' in which you're stating that the man is bent, which could easily be construed as you making out there's some factual basis for your 'opinion', thus potential defamation.

The person suing you would have to prove what you said was false with evidence to back it up which would be extremely difficult. If someone accused you of taking a bribe, how could you 'prove' that you didn't?

Any legal website will tell you, opinions aren't defamation.

Well that's my opinion and I really don't care what you think so don't bother replying to any of my posts.

I think there is a ref in Spain who has never reffed a Barcelona match in which they have lost. This ref MUST indeed be dodgy...

some of you will get my drift...<ok>
