Not by me JWM, But he would have achieved his target so he would have fulfilled one of his major key performance indicators, so it would be hard to sack him really. We probably would end up in court again like with the Lambert thing.
The issue is that there are a lot of good clubs in the Championship these days and it is hard to get out of it, just ask all Ipswich fans. We would need to hang on to our best players and buy more quality to come straight back up like Newcastle.
One season too late! Why wasn't this level of ambition shown last summer when you still had momentum after a great finish to the season? Surely the new manager must have realised that Holt would be very unlikely to repeat his goal scoring tally this season.
I can't argue with that JWM. In part, Holt's lack of goals - but our strikers lack of composure in front of the opposition net - has put us in this position. Even the much maligned Morison hit double figures last term.
The 7 year plan as it was has, I believe, been replaced. The original one was for: 1. League 1 Promotion 2. Championship Stability 3. Championship Stability 4. Championship Promotion 5. Premier League Relegation 6. Championship Promotion 7. Premier League Survival I think I remember being told that as soon as we gained early promotion to the PL, the plan was rewritten. I presume it still accounts for a couple of seasons in the championship, as I don't think we'd have banked on staying up properly at the first time of asking.
O/T I was busy over the weekend with family stuff and have only just realized that Posh were relegated! Excellent! I am not keen on Darren Ferguson and I detest Adrian Durham!
So this is year 4 and if we go down, next year I read the parachute payment will be £23m? That tops the £7m, (I believe), in 2005.
There is absolutly NO guarantee that we will come straight back up from the championship, so I don't know how this plan is expected to work! It's planning to fail, and that's not good. It would have been better to plan to consolidate, and when it was obvious it wasn't working change the plan, i.e the manager!
Watching this just made me more nervous: http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/g...t-if-wigan-beat-swansea-anybody-can-go-down/?
How can CH be retained even if we do survive?? Perhaps if Brighton don't get promoted, we could try for Poyet, as at least he would get us attacking the opposition, as opposed to trying to prevent them from scoring. As has been said before, our record since December has been ABYSMAL and CH seems powerless to motivate the players to do much about it!!! PS - Good comments JWM
I think someone posted around here somewhere that Parachute payments will be £23m, then I think it's something like £11m in season 2, then £6m in seasons 3 and 4.
I do feel for Hughton. he's not pulled up trees during his time at Norwich. He had a win ratio of 55% at Newcastle and nearly 42% at a buggered Birmingham City. Is Hughton negative, for us is seems so, but when he took Newcastle up from the Championship they won the title with 102 points and a goal difference of +55. at Birmingham he finished forth with 76 points and +27. Newcastle were 11th in the Premier League when he was sacked.
I was quite surprised when you opted for Hughton in the first place tbh. I would have thought that Ian Holloway would have been ideal as he get's his teams to play attacking football and he would just be a great laugh. You would score sheds of goals and yes probably concede quite a few but it least he would get you off your seats! Maybe once Palace fail in the play-offs he would be a great option.
Holloway is not exactly a model of stability which was a priority when our previous manager did the Lambert-walk. Our current squad would be pretty useful in the Championship but clearly lacks Prem quality. If we still had Lambert in charge we would be watching better football but we'd still be watching a relegation fight. We missed a trick not strengthening in the Summer (due in part to PL leaving and then Holt putting in a transfer request) which I do not blame CH for but we cocked-up massively in Janaury by not strengthing and trading Moro for Becchio as discussed on another thread today. Why bring in a forward to a club lacking firepower and then not play him? The 7-year plan is, I would presume a state of flux. We are currently ahead of schedule but risk falling back. If we drop it will be a disaster financially as unless we take a chance and invest heavily in the Summer we do not have a squad that stands out as nailed on to get promotion. If we stay up then I guess we remain ahead of schedule and hopefully the club can throw some money at getting better players in to secure the next few years and allow for the planned redevelopment of FCR. By this time next week we will probably know what our next plan is likely to be!
To be honest mate, i would love to see Ipswich promoted. I know we are supposed to not want eachother to do well but i think the only thing being in the Premier League is missing is two Derby days and it always adds a bit more competitiveness when we share leagues. I stand by that with my tin hat on mind.
