    That has eluded england for an entire generation. The day they finally truly perform on the biggest stage against a top team when it really matters.....

    What a pathetic 2nd half showing, Where was Beckham, Crouch, etc when you needed them 46 years on and technichly rubbish!.

    I think you said it yourself - it wasnt so much a pathetic showing as much as the players just arent technically good enough. They couldnt keep hold of the ball in the dying minutes against sweden and got away with it. they couldnt keep hold of the ball in the dying minutes against ukraine and got away with it. they couldnt keep hold of the ball against italy after the first half hour and somehow got to penalties. England are so, so frustrating to watch. They just cannot keep the ball for any length of time and they invite wave after wave of attacks on to them. In fairness they didnt lose tonight, but its a saving grace they went out cos germany would have wiped the floor with them.. The simple, grass roots, bog standard passing and moving just isnt there in the england team because its not taught from the bottom up.

    "The simple, grass roots, bog standard passing and moving just isnt there in the england team because its not taught from the bottom up" yep, you have to blame youth coaches for that, I used to live in spain and play football on Tuesdays and Thursdays, one was before the kids trained and one after, we used to watch them, it was all abut pass and move & tight ball control, they also use a smaller ball with a lot less bounce to encourage actual skill. In England the mentality is to teach the kids to win only.
