Cardiff fan in peace. Now that our seasons have ended again at the same stage, or in our case a step backwards. I was just wondering what your opinions are on why we can't seem to make that final step? I know that psychology, team spirit and luck (and based on Mondays evidence, you didn't have any of that) are all factors but do you guys think there's something else that could be the reason? I know the expectation level down here this year has been ridiculous and with the players we had, on paper, should have done a lot better but once again, we couldn't get past that brick wall. As it stands, and unless we have a clean sweep, I think we've had our crack at the Prem for the time being. It's easy to listen to the club officials reasons but as we're the ones who pay to go week in, week out, I was just interested in the fans view points. It maybe too early or even still too raw to go into this (trust me, I'm feeling it too) but just thought I'd ask. cheers
Good thread H, I think Forest and Cardiffs biggest problem is consistancy. To win the play offs you have to play well over three games against some quality teams. This has always been a Forest problem were capable of battering a decent team one week then get hammered in the next game against lower league opposition. I think when you couple this with a high expectation (and it must have been high at your place with 4 games to go) to do well it can sometimes cause a collapse in form.
I Agree mate. Consistancy has never been one of our strong points. We can go on a decent 5-6 game run and throw it all away in the next couple (take November and March out of the calender and I'd be a lot happier). Complacency played a big part this year too, from the players and the fans imo. Once we broke our dreaded Deepdale jinx, albeit in no great style, you got the feeling down here that with 2 games left we're gonna nick that 2nd spot. Next up were Boro and I don't think we recovered from that. It was a reality check but too little too late. Expectation turned to hope which basically turned into last night. Still, we go again next year. all the best.
I think both Boards at both clubs will wonder why they did not add a little more squad depth but both sides will be back next season to hopefully make the final step
I think Forest have a good young side that with a couple of additions may well make that step up. Cardiffs future is a bit more in doubt, it depends on a lot of factors like new manager, loan signings becoming permanent and more. I think Forest will be in the Play Offs again i'm not so sure about Cardiff.
I hate to say it gonzo, but I think you could be right. The atmosphere down here makes the Blackpool loss last year look like just a mild irritation. It's crazy. Unless the board step up to the plate, I think we're in for a long old season next year.
Not a Cardiff fan but won tickets and went last year, the fans were optamistic at the time and there was a good atmosphere. I work in Cardiff and felt there was no beleif from the fans this year.
The problem is you look at teams like Sheffield united and Preston, these are teams that have performed well over the years but not taken their chances in the playoffs and look at them now. As a Forest fan I know what playing in League 1 is like and I would not wish it on my worst enemy (well, maybe Derby)
