I agree. He gave us top 10 last season, some very good players (including Sess), in his first year and a bit he worked wonders for the team. I'll never forget the elation that I felt after the thrashing we dealt Chelsea, such a nice guy but everybody has their time and their limits.

    Well said syd.
I think he gave it his all but it's the right decision for all concerned.
He's getting murdered on Twitter. Sadly.

He can only have himself to blame, for his own sad sorry demise.

At January 1st 2011, he had a club with a plan and we were sitting comfortable in the top 6. By the end of January 2011, the plan, the dream and the hope had been lost completely. Selling Darren Bent will rank as the single worst decision Bruce will ever make as a manager. Not replacing him at the time and especially this past summer, is his second worst decision. Whatever the reason why Bent left, Bruce had 12m to spend on a striker and for that we could have had maybe 3 or 4 alternatives but he chose to bring in Wickham and Ji instead and they were never going to be able to replace Darren Bent.

The rest as they say is history.

I have no doubt Bruce will be back in the game very soon but I will guarantee you all now, it will be back with a Wigan (maybe Blackburn who knows) or Similar size club. One with maybe 15,000 to 25,000 crowds maximum and less ambition to be better. The Sunderland job was far, far too big for him and he couldn't cope with the ambition and hopes for the club by the owner and the fans. Not over expectation but just steady and modest ambition.

I dont wish him any ill will personally but I am highly, highly delighted he is no longer our manager. Ecstatic would be more to the point.

The season really DOES start today for me.

In fairness to Bruce its not that ye have a bad team, the teams around ye have -10 goal difference so Sunderland have a solid defence, if he had gotten a decent striker, or held onto Gyan, Sunderland could have be in the top ten.

I'm just an old softy Cest and glad to be so, he had to go but that does not mean I am happy to see anyone lose their job, yes he has money but there is more in life than money,

So I say again, from me its thanks for the good times.

Not sure the sale of Bent or the loan of Gyan are all at Bruce's door.

Other than that? Not many good times in my memory, Chelsea away apart.

We need someone who can mentally lift the squad an inch or two; as well as a name who can attract good europeans.

    Rafa?

Well said, i never want a manager to be sacked but he had to go. I think he will be hurt by this, and people bringing his geordie roots are idiots. The guy clearly tried hard, even though sometimes it was hard for us to see that.

Either way Thank You Steve Bruce. Hope you get a job soon.

    Very true Syd.
He's been hurting big time for quite some time now so hofefully he can take time out to spend with his family & close friends.

Got to give the Big Man credit though as he once answered an email that my boy sent him. Keano never did!

well said syd, you can bet there will be plenty who will vilify bruce but i won't be one of them.

he gave us some good times, and i have a lot of time for the bloke, but in the end it just wasn't working out - he had clearly lost the fans, and the players were playing like they were **** scared to do anything positive. we have the squad to improve, but a change was desperately needed.

    cheers steve, and good luck.
