Bluebirds legend Kevin McNaughton will leave Cardiff City this summer I am sure I am not alone in saying a big thank you to Super Kev for his contribution to the club and some great memories. Also leaving are Danny Gabbidon and Nicky Maynard. I will always remember Gabs for his first stint at the club at the time the club was 'on it's way back'. Sadly we never really saw the real Nicky Maynard ater that awful injury. Good luck to both of them. Leaving the Under 21's/DVP Anthony Bell, Jaye Bowen, Gethyn Hill, Danny Johnson, Joe Massaro, Kane Owen, Ben Watkins, Bradley Wickham, Bradley Williams and Josh Yorwerth One year extensions for Jazzi Barnum-Bobb, Tyler Roche, David Tutonda and Curtis Watkins Two year contract for Ben Wilson Macauley Southam offered a contact extension. Professional deals have been offered to members of this year’s U18 squad to step up into U21/DVP football. Robbie Patten, Abdi Noor, Ashley Baker, Dylan Rees, Tom Burridge, Eli Phipps and Jamie Veale
Agree on the Kev front. Not sure why he was given a new contract then shipped out on loan, but not his fault. A real work horse who gave everything for the cause (despite his lack of goals, which can be given of a full back). Unlucky for some of the young guns, many of the names I recognise from positive comments from the press (I know) and the CCFC official site. Good luck to those offered contacts and extensions. We could do with a few coming through. Might be better than Slade's bargain basement fare, and at least will have history with the club.
I watched a few of the U21 and U18 games this season and it is always tough on those players being let go at the end of the year, however of those mentioned above that are being retained, I would say that Robbie Patten, Ashley Baker, Maccauley Southam, Tyler Roche and David Tutonda are players that could make it through to the first team in due course. David Tutonda made a great impression at Newport County whilst out on loan recently.
Thanks for the input Tiger. Josh Yorwerth always seemed to get good write ups so surprised he's going. Where does Bellamy's lad play? He's a bit younger isn't he?
I I think Ellis Bellamy would have one more year at U18 level, I did come across a Mail Online report he had a trial at Ipswich last year. I was suprised to see Yorwerth released as he always seemed to do pretty well when I have seen him play, however I suppose this is the point in a players careers where a decision has to be made if there is a future with the Bluebirds first team squad, or let the players go to give them a chance of securing a position at another club. I guess a large percentage of players never quite make it to the senior level?
It's a funny equation. If player has an average career life expectancy of 10 years (21-31) a club with a squad of 30 needs 3 new players a year coming through the ranks. Most clubs buy far more than they produce, so where do all the players come from? I accept that lower clubs produce youngsters that move up and others produce players that don't achieve the required levels and drop down the leagues. There are late developers and players that show potential and don't develop further, but how much money is spent chasing the dream where in the long run youngsters will pan out ok? Interesting to see where some of the youngsters we're produced have ended up and how we'd have faired if we'd managed to hold on to them or decided not to get rid of them. Even the best clubs in the land don't seem to have much home grown talent.
Cheers BT I'm also sad to see McNuggs leaving. Pity he couldn't have a last hurrah with us although I believe his last game was away at Southampton last season so at least he went out with a win!!! Not many players have their own song!!! Good luck Super Kev and thanks for the memories!!!!
Kev will go down as a City legend, NQAT. I can only ever recall him scoring 2 goals - one at Hereford in our FA Cup run and one versus Blackpool at NP. Were there any others? Not the best crosser of the ball but gave 100% and that was not always evident with some of his fellow City players. Recall he was on his knees literally after the Pompey defeat. And although he was roasted by Downing in the Carling Cup Final, he gave everything that day. Maybe he should have taken the penalty and not Gerrard! Hope he finds a club as he'll be an asset for them. As for Maynard, such a shame we never saw the best of him. I suspect he'll get a club and score a few.
Evening gents, long time no speak. Gutted to see Super Kev go but I suppose the time was right. Hope he has success at his next club and that the City do decide to grant him a testamonial next season!
Kev is a legend and I feel a bit bad for the way it all ended up. I would have loved to have seen him get a few games for us last season.
I see Josh Yorwerth has signed for Ipswich - a club still in with a chance of making a return to the promised land
Strange to think that we leave a player go as not being good enough and a team above us signs him. Obviously above league 1 standard so Slade doesn't want him. Good luck to the lad.
WoL yesterday. Super Kev still without a new club. Might have to go back to Scotland. BUT City have agreed he will have a testimonial. Great news. Look forward to having the chance to see him play once more and wish him well.
They can't afford him. Strict budget after millionaire director announced he was selling his shares. Supporters trying to put deal together to buy him out.
In fairness to Les Scadding he capitalised his loans unlike VT so far. That means someone has to actually buy him out. Amount is a bit lower than VT's loans. £1.2m and he will take less so he can move on. Bermuda I think.
