After living here for just under 2 years, today (in the last hour) I have seen a Thai national wearing the Norwich City shirt! I have not even seen another Brit wearing one here although have met a few from Norwich, North Walsham & Dereham (they all supported 'big teams'). So, I can officially report that there at least 2 Thai Norwich supporters in Thailand (the other one is on Twitter and lives in Bangkok). Premier League status must be having an effect and at least some recognition is forthcoming here It is normal to see Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea & Arsenal shirts (in that order of popularity) and even some Real Madrid & Barcelona shirts but very rare to see any other team outside that group - hence I was well chuffed when I saw that shirt tonight!
Love that! I've ensured that some Kenyan kids got some Norwich City shirts at an orphanage I went to. Unfortunately a binners shirt got in there. I've got a photo of the kid wearing the ipswich shirt and she looks bloody miserable, while the ones in norwich shirts are really happy!
I went to Thailand in 1994 or 95 and saw loads of Thai guys wearing Norwich shirts, the PL or being in Europe does make a difference.
I sat next to some Thai supporters a few weeks back, we had a supporters clubs from around the world sort of theme going on. There were loads of them! ILD OTBC
UEA used to attract a lot of Malaysian students. When I worked there in the eighties would meet up with some of them to listen to the radio commentaries on the BBC World Service over a few anchor beers.
I would love to know where they all come from! I am guessing the Thai's are in or around Bangkok and possibly south of that city but up here in the north they do not tend to broaden their minds so quickly so getting the message through here seems a lot harder
