it's ridiculous, do you know how many times i've had to google what certain letter combinations mean? They're an insult to the queens english. I have repeatedly told people i know, that if they wish to text me, they use real english, or they phone me. it's insulting to have some of these terms put in the new oxford english dictionary. What next, we adopt american spelling? i hereby propose a ban, forcing everyone to use the brilliant language we've been given, not some modern, yet pathetic, tke on it.

What about you fellow not606ers? Are you frequent users of this new language, or are you at a loss too? All views are welcome, it's an open forum.

P.S. I have nothing against smilies, only text-speak.

At last, something we can agree on <ok>

Anyone over the age of 12 who uses text speak on anything other than a phone (and even then it's borderline) should be beaten to within an inch of their life.

Did you start this thread because I put "Ofc" on another thread about 20 mins ago?

If so I used Ofc (Ofcourse) long before texting had come about.

What about writing no. for number? That's been round for years.

No, it's because of your username. I had to google what FTW means, and i'm sick of always having to use google to see what people mean.

I don't use text speak because I have a basic grip of the English language.

Each to their own though unless they're over 65 and using text speak because that is just wrong. When my parents use it it just makes me cringe.

Get the bunnet on pa and stop pretending you're "down with it".

Very few people use text speak any more now that you get automatic corrections and predictive texting on modern phones. It was a way to beat the old system which doesn't work any more and people generally accept that it makes you look a bit thick if you start missing out vowels. I don't really object to the concept of shortening words if you'd rather type quickly and get it over with, it's just that you sacrifice whether you're perceived well by other people if you do type/text/write like that.

On the other hand, I do agree that these ridiculous nerdy initialisms get annoying, especially all that internet-driven ****e like 'for the win'. Talk like a normal person and stop confusing everyone, it defeats the whole purpose of language.

That is true actually. It's now much easier to write "normally" than it is to write text speak. Especially with the keyboard I've got on my phone. I've just grown out of it. In fact, I get rather embarrassed when I look back a few years ago to how I used to write.
