That's very kind of you guys - the flooding is very localised at the moment and certainly nothing like the disaster in 2007. It does point out though that since that time, practically b*gger all has been done to solve this problem and hundreds of properties in the town and surrounding areas are still under threat every time it rains for more than a couple of days, absolutely scandalous. And they're still building on the flood plain...
And just remeber Tewks, God forbid that the worst does happen, but if you find yourself up to your knees and surrounded by sand-bags, don't you dare think about using a hosepipe!!!!
That reminds me... A few years back the co-founder of Apple came around my house and nicked a bottle of Mr Sheen...****ing Jobs, coming over here and stealing all our Polish.
Just arrived home and even though seagulls have replaced sheep in all the fields in the lower part of Tewkes and the big Common called The Ham to the NorthWest of the town is completely underwater, disruption is minimal, thank goodness. The very picturesque view of The Abbey on most websites today is caused by the tiny River Swilgate, usually about six inches deep, which is running at about six feet today and has inundated the cricket ground (first match Saturday, not). The Abbey never floods, not even in 2007 - nothing to do with divine intervention, just brilliant foresight by the civil engineers in the 12th century. The storm that hit us last night woke me at one and three o'clock with serious thunder and lightning and torrential rain. There's normally a floodwater surge a couple of days after heavy rain as the stuff that's fallen on the Welsh Hills reaches us. Thanks to everyone for their continued concern, I have a couple of dozen sandbags and a large rubber ring ready to go.

Apparently, Sky News has been using footage from 2007 to illustrate its coverage of this week's minor floods. There's been a rush of hotel and restaurant cancellations in the town and market day today was hardly worth holding. Absolutely disgraceful.
This is another example of media exaggeration or misrepresentation, something the BBC have been guilty of on a number of issues as well. The system for complaints against the media should be more robust.
