OK this is all rumours, but this guy has always had his finger on the pulse in the past, a mate of mine he is a massive Everton fan and always appears to have the inside track. A few "big" clubs both at home and abroad seem to be prepared to make a raid on Everton for Jack Rodwell in January, by premiership standards Everton are no longer a wealthy club and could well succumb to a £10 - £15 million bid (or maybe more who knows?) So what I hear you cry, Dave Moyes is a fan of our own Peter Whittingham (allegedly), the whisper on the blue half of Merseyside is Rodwell will go, and Whitts is in the frame as his replacement. Interesting test of our clubs resolve, according to most sources we no longer NEED to sell. OK I know every player has his price, but Whittingham is as important (if not more so) to our season as Rodwell is to Everton's............if we are no longer a "selling club" should we hold out and tell them to foxtrot oscar, or demand an 8 figure fee (£10,000,000 +) to ward them off. I'm not suggesting Whitts is worth that much, but it would send a message of intent out to PL clubs that have raped us in the past Ramsey for £5 million..........a deal driven by desperation in the past agreed, but a joke transfer in reality..........it would be an interesting test of the new owners resolve IMO.
If it was last season, we may have been tempted as we would have had some cover, but with all the changes that have happened in personel and Whitts now being the big cog and no longer in the shadow of Chops, Jay, Bellamy I think Foxtrot Oscar is the right call.
That's very strange Proph - almost unearthly. I haven't metioned it on here before, but I heard the very same thing over the phone about a fortnight back - from an Arsenal fan above all things. Not about young Rodwell necessarily, but about Everton (Moyes) being very keen on Whitts. He sees him as a direct replacement for Arteta going to the Gunners, and rates Whitts very highly. As far as the fee and "resolve testing" is concerned, Whitts is on a three year contract but as we all know that means naff all these days. Whitts says he's happy here and I believe him. He's also said that Prem football is his ambition (preferably with Cardiff), but that was an obvious thing to say in an interview whilst he's signed for this club. Malky has said that Whitts is pivotal to his plans here, but as always in this game, money tends to talk louder than sentiment.
rodwell is average in my opinion, not worth £10m, he's not been able to command a regular place in an ordinary everton team until now and its fair to say now he is in there he's not pulling up any trees, neither did he ever really stand out for england. whittingham is probably in this market worth at least £3m, maybe £4m but not much more. he's not an everton player - he doesnt have a high work ethic so i highly doubt that link has anything in it to be honest.
Maybe maybe not, but if Everton (or anyone else) comes in for Whitts should the club quote them "silly money" just to show that our club is not a selling club anymore..........a sort of hands off gesture............would I sell Whitts for £10 mill..........yep, would anyone be liable to pay that nope, but it would send out a message. no point in sniffing around CCFC as a "bargain basement" club anymore, and it would raise the clubs profile as serious contenders when it came to signing players. Potential new signing..."how ambitious are CCFC?" "Well we just turned down a BIG did for Whittingham" It shows ambition, not a bad thing
Everton dont spend that sort of money these day TBH i could not see them stumping up much more than 3 mil for a player out of the Championship. so on that basis i hope its a no go or we get raped again!!
