The Football Association could charge John Terry despite the Chelsea captain being cleared of racially abusing Anton Ferdinand. Terry, 31, said in court he was repeating what he thought Ferdinand had said to him as they traded insults. But the lower burden of proof in FA cases means that both Terry and Ferdinand could be sanctioned. The FA said it "notes the decision in the John Terry case and will now seek to conclude its own enquiries". This could run and run!
Just my inbuilt moral compass that tells me everything about him is repugnant.....if he wasn't a famous footballer, people wouldn't give him the time of day. Show me one good quality he's got, and I'll reconsider.
Ambition isn't necessarily a good thing in an individual - Hitler was pretty ambitious too (not that I'm remotely comparing Hitler with anyone). It's about how that ambition is expressed that makes it good or bad. Another word for ambition would be desire which again is ambiguous depending on what that desire is.
I agree - I recall just after 9/11, he was at an airport where there were some Americans - he started doing the Dambusters routine , with the goggles etc. Asshole.
Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle believes there should be a clampdown on foul and abusive language in football. Christ if they bring that in there will be no players left!
not a fan of him as a person from what we hear in papers so even thats a dubious view of him, would say in his defence he has never let England down and always played his heart out were wearing the national shirt more than you could say for many other playerswho never seem to get much bad press ,FA should just drop this case now ,but impliment a strong anti race and bad language policy for the coming season,to say bad language is acteptable in todays game is wrong, when i was playing if you swore at the ref it was in the book, not accepted in Rugby which lets face it is far for physical so why in football?
Posted this in another thread but it got drowned in off-topic stuff, so I'll paste it in here: The magistrate has to work on the grounds of whether it was beyond reasonable doubt, which he decided it wasn't because nobody could prove exactly what he said, but he also said he thought Ferdinand was a credible witness and has no reason to make up the accusation. In other words, he strongly implied that had the case been decided the balance of probabilities, like the FA did with the Suarez case, he would have been found guilty. If the FA don't punish Terry they'll open themselves up to charges of inconsistency or bias in favour of an England player. Under the same rules Suarez got punished, Terry must be as well.
I see anti-discrimination campaigner John Amaechi is now calling for strong action to be taken against Terry. Could put a big dampenere on the start of the season.
just quickly off the top of my head, England v Gemany 2010 World Cup - Terry was shocking. Go and look at his defending for their 4 goals. He was really bad and I would use the phrase "he let England down" for that performance. I would play my heart out for England (in fact I did!) but that didn't mean I had played well or would play well.
The BBC's Dan Roan has just tweeted that John Terry has been charged by the FA. 8 match ban here we come...
"It is alleged that Terry used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Queens Park Rangers' Anton Ferdinand, contrary to FA rules. "It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Anton Ferdinand." Exactly the same wording as the Suarez case: "It is alleged that Suarez used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra contrary to FA rules. "It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Patrice Evra."
