http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19021184 Chelsea captain John Terry has been charged by the Football Association for his part in last season's incident with QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.
I was taking bets on when this would be announced, though I had it for the day Bradley Wiggins won the tour de france. I suppose with the Olympic opening ceremony filling the telly tonight and papers tomorrow I should have guessed. Looks like the FA are keen to play this at a lower key than the incident earlier in the year.
The FA made a point of saying they want him for their WC qualifier in september. The FA[h=1]John Terry charged[/h]Friday, 27 July, 2012 The FA has today charged John Terry. After seeking advice from an external Independent QC, and having considered the evidence and Magistrates' Court decision in the John Terry case, The FA has today charged the Chelsea player following an alleged incident that occurred during the Queens Park Rangers versus Chelsea fixture at Loftus Road on 23 October 2011. It is alleged that Terry used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Queens Park Rangers’ Anton Ferdinand, contrary to FA rules. It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Anton Ferdinand. This charge is the result of The FA’s long-standing enquiries into this matter, which were placed on hold pending the outcome of the criminal trial, and relates to rules governing football only. During this period John Terry remains available to play for England. Terry has until 3 August 2012 to respond. The FA will make no further comment during this time. http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/NewsAndFeatures/2012/john-terry-charged.aspx
I wish everyone would stop talking about the ****er and racism in general. FA really should just **** off too, thinking they're higher than the law.
To be honest, I don't care. Our player is back, mad, with a point to prove and an attitude. Terry knows he bumbled through this. He won't be mad at anyone, the media, the FA, the club, the only reaction he can have is a sheepish one. He wasn't discriminated against for being a foreigner, and if he has half a brain he'll realise how much this could have impacted him. It will serve as a distraction to him at the beginning of the season, especially if they don't get off to a flying start. Or perhaps he really is clueless and just won't care. Either way, we as a club are done with this.
See there's no charge for Rio X and his choc-ice comment. Be interesting when Terry's lawyers rip the FA an new one. FFS, at least he won't be represented by that tit McCormick - by all accounts he was like George in the trial of Blackadder.
"The FA said in their statement: 'Chelsea captain John Terry has been charged by the Football Association with using abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards QPR defender Anton Ferdinand, the FA have confirmed. 'It is further alleged that this included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Ferdinand.'" So why hasn't Anton also been charged for the first part of this offence? It's like charging one person for duelling. Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Anton-Ferdinand-racism-row.html#ixzz21rgXvc9t
You want the black man charged for being abused? Give over your "campaign" mate. What has black people done to you that you have so much resentment? you seem to want to undermine the anti-racism campaign too ...what do you gain from that? Are you Nick Griffin's friend?
He should also be charged with use of foul and abusive language, as he admitted it to the court. Terry's charge is more serious as it involves the alleged use of a racial term, but the FA has wimped out by not charging Ferdinand. If they want this kind of behaviour out of the sport they had the chance to make a clear stance that ANY type of insulting language would not be tolerated. Weak FA as ever.
It is not realsitic to eliminate bad language form the pitch. You and I and the world know that. BUT just because you can't do that does not mean we should not try to cut down on racial abuse.
What is the point in having a charge for foul and abusive langauge if it is rarely used? If it was used more often and especially when it has been documented in a court that both players were using it then players would stop using it, otherwise they may as well scrap it all together or just have it for when it is aimed at officials. The FA have no interest in the game itself, so long as it brings in shed loads of cash and gets publicity, they're happy.
What did Ferdinand say which could get him in front of the FA? He said to Terry " you sh*gged your mate's woman". So is it so bad that you should be charged? would saying "f**k you" means a charge? Come on. Let's be real about it. If it is real significant foul/abusve language then fair enough. Rooney got banned for swearing into the mike (well done FA!). the anti-racism campaign by the FA is long overdue and IMO one of the few things they got right.
What is 'real significant' foul/abusive language? ****, ****, bastard, ****? Is there a difference if they are all swear words!? None of what was said by either Ferdinand or Terry was caught on camera like with Rooney, no one on the pitch even heard what was going on between those two otherwise there would have been an almight punch up if anyone had heard what Terry was supposed to have said! It's just FA kangaroo court making it look like they are doing something for anti-racism (thumbs up on that count) but have completely missed the opportunity to clean up other parts of the game which also need attention.
One thing I have noticed is how the comments are disabled on Sky's column, something which never happened during the Suarez situation.
i find the original few comments here interesting as i'd not think that way but it is correct. the FA announced it on the day of the olympic opening ceremony. you guys are right they did it to bury it. I think it is clear that we have nothing but issue with all of this. 1. its clear if you don't like an opponent all you need do is fit him up now as the results are there for all to see. 2. its also clear you don't need real evidence that would stand u pin court. 3. its very very clear that footballers are idiots and their lips flap far quicker than thier pea brains process. 4. finally and probably most clearly the way all english get away with next to anything up to murder. yet the rest are treated harshly... hell gareth bale is a victim this week of english mob press over the olympics when in fact we all silently are so glad our young players are not at it due to the euros
