JT has had two exceptional tournaments for England now: germany 2006 and pukraine 2012. Where does he stand alongside England's best post 66 CBs? 1 Moore 2 Rio 3 Campbell 4 Terry 5 Adams 6 butcher 7 Watson 8 Hughes 9 Thompson 10 charlton
He doesn't stand alongside any of those listed, he's too busy trying to pump their wives while they're not looking.
Wish it had been him that had taken the last penalty. Makes me laugh to see the big **** crying. Still - Ashley Cole, this year's Chris Waddle. That'll do for me.
Terry is a "Carthorse" of the old school. Slow as a week in jail and extremely limited technically. However he is big and strong and can run all day, probably does benchpresses impressively, but as a footballer he is simply woeful. His "last ditch challenges" and "blocks" are not a sign of a good player, he is constantly making desperate challenges because he is almost always out of position.
Exactly Dev, some people actually applauded him on the Ukraine ghost goal, despite him getting caught under the high ball, easily outpaced and then failing to clear it in time, and if it weren't for an inept official this would've been shown
I'm not John Terry's biggest fan, but I thought he had a good tournament. He does suffer from Carragher Syndrome though these days (being forced to make last ditch tackles and blocks due to lacking the kind of pace that would allow him to get to the ball comfortably).
Last ditch challenges ffs, you lot have no idea about football. Let me first state that I am a Chelsea fan and do not like Terry as a man, and some of his conduct on, and off the pitch are not what should be expected of an England (Former) captain. But to say that he has had to make those challenges because he is lacking in some way is ridiculous, have you not realized that he makes so many blocks and interceptions because he reads the process of play better than most out there. Take off your anti blue (Chelsea) glasses off and get real, it happens too often for it to be luck, the man is a class defender and would put his head in the way of a flying boot to stop an opponent from scoring and has done on many an occaision, could you say that of your average premiership player today. He is not the quickest and never has been, not many great defenders are/were. Just look at it from a pure footballing viewpoint, (Which I suppose most of you can't, judging by the post's on this thread). He is getting older and will be found out by the younger/faster player's, but to deny him a place among the top 10 defender's since 1966 is frankly rubbish. And you know it.
How can the Irish talk about defending when they parked the bus and still got humiliated in every game! And ended up with the worst possession and Gd in Euro history. Fortunately the quality of English players coming through these days is not good enough to supply two international teams: so England B won't embarrass themselves at this level for another 24 years
