Following Cosmeapolitan’s 10 length romp at Newbury on Saturday afternoon have all the forumites telephoned their preferred bookie chappie and queried, ‘I say, my old love, what odds are we quoting on this one for the 2017 Triumph. You follow???’.

He looked good. He looked very good. And I really can’t wait to see this one out later in the year over 2 miles and 8 flights of timber. As they say round my way, ‘That’s something to look forward too, methinks’. The Triumph Hurdle crown may, I say may, be on its way back to the county, pilgrims.

The only negative is, of course, what this ridiculously easy success is going to do to Cosmeapolitan’s Flat perch (ran off 80 at the weekend). I can’t see the old boy handicapper being overjoyed to see an animal win, at a Grade 1 track on a Saturday, by 10 lengths! He may be harsh and he may be vindictive, people.

Motherland is another one who could be worth a shilling for Joseph O'Brien. Similar theme, he romped home by 17!!!!! At Galway.

Cosmeapolitan has been hiked up 10 lbs (to a mark of 90) for his win at Newbury on Saturday. The old boy handicapper has certainly made life more difficult for him, in this sphere, in the future.

There are now prices on Oddschecker re the 2017 Triumph Hurdle but neither the above mentioned Cosmeapolitan or Motherland are currently quoted. 25/1 joint faves are Flying Tiger (Nick Williams trained animal who has already won in France) and Sir Valentine (trained by Alan King and owned by the 11th richest man in Wales. Yet to ruin over the sticks but did win on the level last week).

Anyone like anything else, at this early, early, early stage, for the Triumph. What whispers have we heard?!?

All the talking re Cosmeapolitan is set to end as, all being well, he’s due to make his debut over timber, across the county line, at Newbury on Wednesday. Let’s hope he commences his career, in this sphere, with a nice win.

I’ve been to this Newbury fixture a few times in the past with the highlight being when Zaynar won this very heat back in ’08 (cor blimey was that really 8 years ago!). However, won’t be going this term as it clashes with the Coalface Christmas Dinner at the ‘top table’ (commencing 11.45) followed by fun and frolics till 4.30. Imagine the looks on my coalface colleagues visages if I didn’t turn up. No I couldn’t inflict such despair and heartbreak upon them so will have to give Newbury a miss.

Cosmeapolitan is currently a best priced 33/1 for the Triumph.

I'm afraid to say Motherland has been kept for the flat. With all of JP's juvenile's it seems they have a big enough army without him.
