If you want to see unjustifiably negative reporting, go to the Telegraph online. They really seem to have a problem with 'little teams' in general and Norwich in particular. Yes, it's true that we didn't create many chances, but we restricted a top team in good form to just a few efforts on goal, and with a slice of luck could have got a late equaliser. Oh, and the reporter helpfully points out that we have now lost TWO on the bounce. Against West Brom away and a newly resolute Chelsea team packed full of superstars. Crisis. The final comment that we are in a false position (after half a season) and will still feature in the relegation battle was the icing (poison) on the cake.

Typical Smoke dwelling big time charlies.I was rather expecting this when I posted the "Next six games" thread before Wigan.Well we have taken three points from the first three of that run and we are still ten points off 18th.Villa v Wigan is the next big match down the bottom. From our viewpoint that's a bit of a win-win match.I think QPR and Reading are gone to be honest.Odd goal defeats to top six clubs isn't relegation form and we could easily have drawn either or both.In the words of Corporal Jones..........

written for his target audience, basically a rubbish report

thought we played well we set out to contain them and did, the goal looked pretty awesome from where I sit and cant grumble about being beaten by that

we have come so close to getting something from WBA away and Chelsea at home are sitting comfortably in mid table but apparently that counts for nothing with this so called experts who probably did not even go to the game

Bassong again yesterday was absolutely brilliant what a signing!

The telegraph is poor IMO they have pages and pages on the big teams even on non match days

Try the guardian or independent they are usually more balanced

I was just about to post about the article. The majority of it is about Chelsea, and when they talk about Norwich they are very dismissive, as if being in 11th on 25 points means nothing.

They were very blunt about the Johnson and Snodgrass dives as well, which I'm yet to see a replay of.

Telegraph is an awful paper, truly awful. Makes The Daily Mail look like the height of unbiased centre-ground reporting.

I've had a theory about the media reaction to teams recently. Largely this season is a bit hard to predict and the media don't like it. This has meant that they've fallen back on the previously held belief that money = success. This is that safe prediction, they also like players that they've heard of, the ones the have anointed if you like. Michu keeps being referred to as the surprise of the season but was la Liga's top scoring midfielder last year (for some reason messi and ronaldo aren't considered midfeilders) so it's not that surprising really.
They consider QPR far above where there are as a team because their transfer policy is to bring in known players.
We have a set of players who are panned mostly as league on or championship players so we have to go down, right?
The pundits want people to believe they have some insight to the game that the average punter couldn't have, this season is hard to predict and it's starting to show them up. Basically their system doesn't work anymore and they're hoping that if they ignore this it will go away.

Interesting about Michu, bath! I have to admit I know very little of La Liga outside of Barcelona and Real Madrid, but in sure that's the same for most people.

Seen no mention of Bassong. In my view he is in the top half dozen centre backs in the division.

Quote: "The club’s recent run, including home wins over Arsenal and Manchester United, has only served to mask deeper deficiencies." Does that imply we are in a false position? Not as I read it. What it says is that there are weaknesses (in particular up front) which need to be addressed. Can you disagree with that? I can't.

Quote: "Norwich, with their weaknesses up front, could yet endure a struggle for Premier League survival." Does that say we WILL feature in a relegation scrap? Not as I read it. It says that we MAY face a struggle. Can you disagree with that? I can't.

The main criticism is that we failed to pose any serious attacking threat on the day; "a rare toothless showing by his [Hughton's] players". Unduly negative? No, accurate.

My only real complaint (with the report) would be that our stout defending (which in view of the thrashing handed out to Villa might have been the major objective, i.e. protecting our goal difference) deserved a bit of recognition, and he could have pointed out that even then we came near to taking a point at the end with Bassong's header. Had we done that I think we would have regarded it as "mission accomplished". <ok>

Sorry, Robbie, I usually agree with what you say, but this time I don't.

This prat clearly went out of his way to be dismissive. For a start, almost the entire report is about Chelsea. Not unusual for reporters to focus on the big club, I know, but there was very little about the match itself, and no recognition at all of how hard we made Chelsea work for these three points. When he did deign to mention us, he talked about two Norwich players who dived. (In my opinion, by the way, Snodgrass didn't dive - he fell over his own feet and was soon up off the ground). Why did he pick this out if it wasn't to dismiss us completely, as if we had given nothing to this game? He could have praised us for what I thought was an almost perfect example of how to play a side with lots of top-class flair players, but instead he chose to focus on our 'deeper deficiencies'.

I wonder what he would have written if Bassong had managed to direct that last minute header into the empty space on the left of the goal or Ashley Cole had met that ball very slightly wrong and skewed it into his own net? That's how close we were to getting a point out of this match and you would never have known it from this big-club Charlie.

<ok> vietnam. Yes, it was largely about Chelsea, and "current issue" (diving) fixated, but still IMO not as totally dismissive as you make out. On the positive side, Lawro's summing up (in his "predictions" for tomorrow) was "There wasn't a lot in it [i.e. between the two sides in the Norwich-Chelsea game]; Chelsea won because of their extra quality." As a comment on the game, that's about as good as we get from Lawro!

when we played (and beat) arsenal, all the press reports were about how bad the gooners were but ignore us. when we beat man united, all the press reports were about how bad united were yet again ignore us. when we lose to chelsea, all the press reports are about how good chelsea are and how poor we are. always been the same, always will be. the national press are dismissive of anything to do with norwich city and would probably prefer us to not be involved in the top flight cos its a 'bugger' to get to.
