I usually look forward to Ted's views. They usually provide good insight without getting too technical, however this latest one is sort of helpful in some way but I am getting a bit frustrated with all the "Mercedes is lacking pace" bollocks.

Ted says "Mercedes are clearly lacking some pace compared to the front-runners Red Bull and Ferrari"

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/9402470.stm

Firstly, Mercedes are using an interim car, and unlike other teams, they made sure that their car was very basic. Also, they have been developing their 2011 challenger longer than any other team. Thirdly, their lap times in the race simulation weren't that bad compared to Red Bull's simulation today. Yes RBR are quicker, but that was to be expected since track conditions today are much better then yesterday. All the talk of Red Bull being amazingly quick is just complete rubbish.

Vettel did qualifying simulations today, with his fastest time being 1.23.315 - over three seconds slower than pole position in 2010.

I know these guys are better placed to make judgement about pace than any of us, but I am sick of all the RBR hype - in my opinion Red Bull look quick, and will probably be up there, but not dominating like last year.

Some people are getting upset because they're not hearing what they want to hear. <whistle>

Schumacher said yesterday that "The target is to hopefully be on the podium and maybe, if things go very well, to win a race this year."

So I think it's safe to say that Mercedes are, as Ted put it, "lacking pace compared to the front runners".

All the experts, journalists and people involved in F1 who've been at the actual tests watching with their own eyes suggest that the RB7 looks the fastest car closely followed by the Ferrari. Alonso has also said that "We all know that Red Bull should be ahead of everybody."

But then your judgement, having spent the day watching the timing screens, that Red Bull "will probably be up there, but not dominating" is probably the most accurate of the lot. <ok>

I don't mind Ted Kravitz, but he is speculating a bit about Mclaren. He's entitled to express an opinion though, don't think that makes him a 'tard'!
