With the Premier League starting tomorrow with goal line technology introduced for the first ever time I was wondering what people thought of technology in sport as a whole

Tennis, Cricket, Rugby and many more sports have used technology for a long time but football has now started to use it. And where do you draw the line? Do we just use goal line technology or do we bring in more technology.

DRS has caused alot of controversy in the Ashes series with a number of decisions for both England and Australia. For people who dont follow the cricket in test cricket (5 day games). Each team get a number of referrals per innings where if they wasnt happy with the umpires decision they can get it challenge by an umpire watching the game on tele where he can use a number of components to try to reach the correct decision. But if the video evidence is inconclusive the decision reverts back to what the umpire called on the pitch.

Technology isnt 100% accurate in any sport and they are claiming goal line technology is. That remains to be seen

So what would you like to see?

Technology removed completely? Dodgy decisions create talking points
    Just goal line technology
Or bring in more technology which should see more correct decisions but will slow the game down

I don't want to see the game slowed down, and in football for example you can't ever get it for everything barring looking at things after the game. I don't see why for matter of fact decisions it would slow the game down though. If a player is stood in an offside position then the referee should be able to be notified electronically without it causing a delay. They'd still have to decide about whether it came off an opposing player or not and whether they gained an advantage, but the position itself to know whether he's got a decision to make should be automatic. Even if it was an extra official in the stands having the offside player highlighted to them on a screen then buzzing the ref when he became involved. Where it's not a direct pass that would even give the video ref chance to decide the more subjective part. The technology can be instant providing you can track the players and ball accurately, that's how the FIFA games work, they have a model of the players and pitch that's constantly monitored and then the decision is given when the positions meet set rules. If you can input the player and ball positions in real time the system would work in exactly the same way.

I've always been for technology in football ... people who claim it slows down the game seem to overlook that the real controversial incidents are followed by 5 minutes of hand-bag throwing before the game recommences anyway ... far better to just get the right decision in the first place ...

I agree with this, I mean it doesn't slow Rugby or Cricket down does it.

Im happy with goal-line tech, as theres still plenty of stuff to discuss besides this on programs like MOTD, and like others say, the only slow down is the ref looking at his watch, or even giving a goal while the ball is still in play after it has crossed the line.

I dont think we should be using tech for offsides, replaying fouls to the ref or anything like that though, goal line is enough.
