A very pleasing result and performance last night. I hope MM considers playing 3 up front more often as it provides options that are missing when playing his favoured 4 4 2 Although Sammon is not the most talented player I have seen I thought he was very effective when playing with his back to the goal and providing flick ons and holding play up Didsy was a bit quiet but Murphy made up for that and with the midfield pressing non stop and a really really impressive back four we may have something here But the one thing that really impressed me was the team ethic just goes to show what hard graft can achieve Great team work, good stuff looking forward to the next game
For the first time in a while, we have a whole host of midfield options. Heck, we can even mix it up a bit upfront which takes pressure off Dids/ Murphy. Mick has some tough decisions to make regarding who plays/ who doesn't. Hewitt could perhaps do with a month or two out on loan.
The problem is though, nd even though MM mixed it with a front three, do we have a plan B? We seem only to have one style, and that is to harrass and presure the other team into mistakes. Fulham and Wigan both tried to play a high tempo passing game, and unfortunately for them couldn't break our defence down. i think once teams suss out (if they haven't already) how to play against us, we could come unstuck a bit. For me we play far too many long balls, and don't pass and keep the ball long enough - no one seems to be comfortable on the ball. Also, as we do play a high intesity game, and we have a small squad, we could knacker ourselves out come December and January when the games start coming thick and fast. I'm hoping to be proved wrong, but i think once the season comes to a close, we will be another mid table team.
I think whilst we look alot lot better than we did after the Norwich game and last nights performance was very impressive stretchy has some very valid points. We have pretty much very one dimensional players, we need some players to perhaps mix it up abit and we still lack quality all over the pitch particularly midfield, taking Bishop out of the team that CM is very 1 dimensional and could be an issue and I haven't seen a good performance from a wide player for us for years. It does appear that we are knackered at the end of games though because we play such a high pressing game we then don't have the nouse to take the sting out of the game and just play keep ball because we're knackered at chasing so much for the whole game. We work hard but we need to make the ball do the work and save some energy!!
