John O'Shea will captain Ireland on his 90th international appearance in a Giovanni Trapattoni team that shows few surprises for Wednesday's friendly international clash with Wales in Cardiff.
The one surprise in Trapattoni's team appears to be the formation. Instead of the Italian's favoured 4-4-2 formation, Trap has opted for 4-5-1 with Shane Long as the lone frontman and Wes Hoolahan playing in a deeper role behind the target man.
At the back, Keiren Westwood starts in place of the injured David Forde in the nets, and he will play behind a back four of Seamus Coleman, Ciaran Clarke, John O'Shea and Marc Wilson.
QPR's Richard Dunne has not been included in the squad as he attempts to regain full fitness.
Trapattoni looks set to continue with playing Jonathan Walters out on the wing, with James McCarthy and Glenn Whelan in the centre, and Robbie Brady getting the nod ahead of James McClean.
Sean St Ledger misses out after picking up a knee injury while on club duty with Leicester, an injury that looks likely to rule him out of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers with Sweden and Austria.
Republic of Ireland XI to play Wales: Ciaran Westwood, Seamus Coleman, Ciaran Clark, John O'Shea (captain), Marc Wilson, Jonathan Walters, James McCarthy, Glenn Whelan, Robbie Brady, Wes Hoolahan, Shane Long.

Nobody at the game. The Irish jersey is a lovely colour.....

That goal against Austria in the last minute is a sore one when they show the table.

Whelan should've scored there. Lovely ball from Brady.

    Playing not too badly.

Hoolahan fits in well. The no 10 position is what was needed.

Zip zip. Disjointed game. Hoolahan kinda fell out of the game.

O'Shea handed the armband to Long, Long to Walters, Walters to Coleman........ It means not a lot but it irritated me.
