Just thinking about it, I'm not sure how much importance NP places on the league cup, given that we were knocked out by Brentford last year with a half decent side. Granted, we will see a few players leave and almost certainly a couple more in, what kind of side do you think will play? I'll hazard a guess of...

    ----------------Oxley------------
    Rosenior -----Bradley ---Chester -----Dudgeon

    Emerton ----- Cairney ----- Bullard ----- Devitt

    --------------Ghilas ---------Fryatt -------

    Subs:

    Gulacsi
    Hobbs
    S. Gardner
Atkinson (if he is still here)
    Barmby
    Simpson
    Ford

I reckon NP will want to see Oxley in a competitive game this season. A back four with the experienced Rosenior keeping them steady will hold and will also give Sonny Bradley a chance to show us what he can do (I hear he really impressed with IK Frej). Again, a midfield of 3 youngsters, one who has no first team experience, coupled with an old head to help keep them in line. I figured if Ghilas hasn't gone, this will be his game to show NP he cares. Pre season is all well and good, but it's a perfect opportunity for him in a competitive match. Also put Ray Ford on the bench, I hear he scored a bucket load last season in the reserves, so if he keeps up his impressive form, he might get a place on the bench.

All in all a team that can win in front of what will probably be a meagre home crowd, but will give us a chance to cast our eyes over the younger players.

Well if the price is right then maybe City could get a good crowd. ie. if BIG IF i know, ADAM P. was to say Adults £5 and all others OAPS and 18's and under a Quid. The KC could get a 15,000 plus gate.
If Adam offers Macclesfield a guaranteed Figure then why not try it ? All clubs can do so many promo offers. Who knows if the sun is out and there is nowt on the tele it may be 20,000 at those prices. Worth trying as its a sure fire
thing that £10 and over will be a small gate for sure.

As for the team ? I expect 11 changes from the Blackpool team for sure as NP will want to give his full squad a competative game as quickly as possible. So with that i mind i shall go for this team to beat the Macclesfield Town.

    Basso or Oxley

    Gardner(s) Bradley McShane Dudgeon

    Devitt Harper Cairney Barmby

    Ghilas or Emerton Mclean

I dont expect most of the above to start or come off the bench or be involved in the Blackpool game.
The bench would be an interesting mix for sure. Ghilas would be a make or break game If still at the club by then.
But a team like that should be good enough to beat Macclesfield. imo.

Pointless speculating on a game so far away. Lord knows who will have come in or gone out in that time.

I’m a firm believer that if he is planning on starting a few new faces in our first eleven this season then having a competitive game so early in the season against a “weaker” opposition is great opportunity for them to gel as a side. In my opinion play the first team.
