Just how much influence Rene has had in team selection over the last couple of weeks has been the cause for speculation. Now that’s there’s no doubt who is in charge, his choice is cause for anticipation.

The hope was that his first press conference this lunchtime, ahead of tomorrow’s game, would give an inkling about his thoughts. However, for reasons unknown, it was cancelled.

Hence a blank sheet ….so far anyway.

I believe he has picked the team for the last 2 games, now its him and him only, lets hope they respond to him, I spoke to kit 3 weeks ago, and I asked him cant he save us, he gave a grin and a smile and said something like you will see

That's one of the most positive lines I have read in weeks. I believe a mixture of experience with youth might save us.

Hunger, passion, commitment and luck. That's what'll save us. I firmly believe there are at least 3 less talented squads than ours in the league, we just have to find out how to use ours. As for the team at Spurs I have no idea. I'm hoping for one thing though - a change. It will be interesting either way.

We only need 30 points from a possible 75 to get to the magical 40 points. Or 30 points from 25 games. If we could win 8 games and draw 6 we'd have done it.
    Is this possible?

Anyway back to the team, the BBC hasn't got anything yet except this pearl of wisdom from golden bo****s:
"The good news for Meulensteen is that I do not believe for a minute that Fulham are one of the three worst teams in the division."

kit also said that he trains the youth team harder than the first team, when duff got bombed out by jol, and was training with the under 21s, he said he had never worked so hard, don't think I will be hearing any gossip anymore, now that his role has changed

    I reckon we should go with;

Giraffe; Ferret, Donkey, Horse, Cheetah; Bison, Tiger; Lion, Monkey, Rhino; Fox

No, Bison is too slow and Ferret is weak in the air. Crab could be good in midfield, but he does have a tendency to look for the sideways pass rather than getting it forward. Perhaps Chinchilla would add flair instead. I think Anaconda would add more threat than Monkey when we go forward.

Can't argue with getting Fox in the box though.

If we can get the Ferret and Cheetah overlapping the Lion and Rhino on the flanks and the Monkey feeding the Fox then we just need the Bison and Tiger to cover the midfield in case of a counter attack.

Kammy seems to think a few Beavers in the back line would do a good job.

I think Antelope would be better than Ferret, who's a little on the small side, although tricky when introduced to a pair of trousers. Antelope would give us some speed on the overlap and is a little bit quicker than cheetah so would be a nice balance.

Anaconda for me has the turning circle of an oil tanker and would prefer Wolf or possibly Polar Bear, who carry quite a threat and are more mobile, although Anaconda when deployed with Boa can certainly squeeze any opposition midfield.

In foregoing the traditional pre-match press conference ahead of his first game in charge Rene appears to be working on the basis that actions speak louder than words. However, this game couldn’t have come at a worse time for him - the ideal would have been a clear week to work with the squad at Motspur Park and sort out issues; both the football and the personal variety.

But we’re where we are. The main problem I think he has in team selection is being able to start with eleven players that he knows will last 90 minutes, so that any substitutions are either tactical or because of injury on the night.

Not sure I’d want to be in his shoes right now and merely offer up a few observations:

    Riether is back

    Richardson is out with hamstring

    Hangeland doubt; Dembele doubt

Parker and Berbatov playing against old club. Parker took quite a few knocks on Saturday; Berbatov appears not have recovered from his “illness” [all the stuff in the papers about his Agent saying ‘he’s not happy at Fulham’ is for another thread]

Boateng, Dejagah, Kaca have all been given bit parts lately so “match” fitness in doubt

Kara would normally only last 60 minutes

Duff probably falls into that category these days

All animal based joking apart, I really don't know what to expect on any level tonight. I don't know if Rene is going to shake things up with new faces, try to re-energise the old ones or somewhere inbetween. It's a shame we're facing such formidable opposition, otherwise I'd say that new manager syndrome would give us a decent chance of picking up a point or three. Right now I feel as if I'd settle for a narrow but spirited defeat with signs of hope for the fixtures to come, but that doesn't mean I've given up on us getting something tonight. Anything could happen in the next few hours.

I hope we put up more of a fight TBH. Anything is better than the rubbish we have been served so far this year!
Come on boys. I want to believe again.

The referee tonight is Mr Clattenburg.

Another performance like this will do just fine:

Strangely enough that looks a very balanced team, each player looks to be playing their preferred role. Exciting. Big test for riise and Riether but looking at that team it seems to make sense. With no bent or dembele on the bench I can only assume that Rene may be looking at Ruiz as a striker, thank god, I feel he could shine there.

Come on you whites give us a performance to cheer about, a win would be amazing but a balanced and determined performance would be pleasing.
