Its the Carabao cup next. Harry Maguire is expected to miss out again along with long term injuries Matty James and Daniel Amartey. Vicente Iborra came off with a knock at Brighton and is expected to miss out aswell. Andy King can play though. But James Maddison is suspended. So here is what I would go with

    Ward

    Ricardo
    Soyuncu
    Evans
    Fuchs

    Ghezzal
    Silva
    Ndidi
    Gray

    Iheanacho
    Vardy

Subs- Jakupovic, Benalouane, Simpson, Albrighton, King, Diabate, Okazaki

Isn't there a rule that suspensions in the league only count for the league?

Either way I'd give Vardy and Ndidi a rest as we really need those two fit for the rest of the season. Would like to see one of the u23 RBs promoted to the bench at least and Choudry given a run out too.

They changed the rule but from what I can work out its on 5th yellow cards where the suspension doesnt carry over to the cup

Puel has said Harry Maguire and Rachid Ghezzal are out and Vicente Iborra is a doubt

Surely its time to take this cup seriously. We now have a fantastic chance to reach the semi final at least. Man city will be tough and fighting on all fronts. But we must be good enough if we have a full side out to give us a great chance. We probably have enough points now not to overly worry about having to rest players to keep us up. What a legacy for vichai that would be.

We've got through the last 2 rounds thanks to Danny Ward, i don't think we are going to be able to keep Man City out for 90 minutes.

Although i'd love to see us progress, i doubt we would be able to, even with a full strength team.

Charlie Austin (Southampton) "'the officials need help! We need VAR"

Mark Hughes (Southampton) "We've had a perfectly good goal chalked off by VAR"

Pretty abject performance all round tbh ...

Gray just dpesn't picl the right option at the right time which is very frustrating ... how Vardy must be missing Mahrez ... made some great runs to get free last night only for Gray to try an beat one more man then have his shot blocked <grr>

Soyuncu looked a lot better and it was good to have his pace at the back a couple of times last night ...

We really do lack creativity in the midfield - in fairness to Silva he tend to turn and look forward when he receives the ball .... Mendy on the other hand always seems to play it back the way he is facing even if he has all the time in the world to turn ...

Though Shinji made a difference when he came on ... one fantastic turn but then a pretty tame shot ... if he could only rifle it into the top corner like an Aguerro he would be some player ...

I dont know how Southampton can argue with VAR. It was clear handball. May not have been deliberate but they was gaining a clear advantage for it

I've not seen the handball yet, but I was feeling confident whilst waiting for VAR, due to the immediate reaction from our players.

Anyone else notice when there was a foul just over the halfway line near the East stand, VAR was being looked at for a possible "penalty!!!"

Wasn't for that ... it was because they had just had a shot which hit one of our lads from point blank range in the penalty area - we then cleared it to the halfway line <ok>

We were sitting just about on the halfway line so had a good view of that and also their handball - everyone around me screamed handball before their lad put it in the net ...

Maybe I’m being harsh, but has there ever been a worse player to wear the city shirt than Diabate? Goalkeeping Ricardo, Rab Douglas, Ryan McGivern and Stephen Hughes come close but I’m not sure they offered less than Diabate who had one good game on his debut?

Junior Lewis? Trevor Benjamin? Lee Marshall? Kevin Pressman?

The goal machine that was Trevor Benjamin? Surely not! I remember one game when he was one on one with the opposition keeper and tried to chip him. The keeper had to bend down to collect the shot. <laugh> That one moment was worth the admission money alone.

Think it's too early to write Diabate off - he shows flashes every now and then and, rather like Gray, primarily needs to sort out his delivery and timing of <ok>

I like Diabate. Still very raw but he is a talent. I think he would have been better off on loan then sitting around with under 23’s though
