A great game yesterday, and for long periods of the second half I thought we could grab a win. Really proud of the Swans, after coming through a bad patch of form the way we have. I wanted to get a discussion about some of our players, with next season in mind, and on their performances yesterday. First of all, really impressed with Teindalli, he looks assured, solid, and a decent cover player...Really think we should sign him for next season. What do you think about Tremmels' performance yesterday. It was fairly decent, his distribution is still his biggest problem I think. But he dealt with almost everything that came his way, a great reserve for Vorm. Pablo Hernandez - causing a lot of debate, is he good enough. I think he was at fault for the first goal, and just before Rio scored i'm sure he could have taken a shot up the other end of the pitch. But he was decent, and like what's been said, he can be the difference between a win and a loss when he is on top form...We just haven't seen that consistently from him yet. Maybe next season he will be on it. Do we rely on Michu too much? He does look the best player in the team all of his passes are accurate, and precise. And his finishing can be deadly. Taylor did OK didn't he. Seemed slightly isolated at times. It will take time for him to get on top form again, but he really went into that challenge, and came out of it OK in the end, a big hurdle that. even though that free kick cost us the goal. Ben is the better player at this current moment. So the squad for next season, who's staying and who's going? As some of you know, I have always been a massive fan of Garry Monk, but even I have noticed that he does look quite slow, and not really the best he has ever been. I don't think he should be considered for game time much next season...Keep him at the club though. De Guzman, will he stay or go? I don't know, he played pretty well yesterday, but I just wonder if he is being carried. Does he offer more than he lacks. Creativity, over steel. So, any thoughts?
Agree with most of that. Thought jdg was the invisible man yesterday though, and often gets carried in games. For me Ki adds much more than jdg so I wouldn't sign him personally. Tiendalli has done a fantastic job for us and should definitely be offered a contract. Pablo, well, I hope he comes good. He's shown he has the ability, but hadn't shown he can do it on a regular basis. Hopefully next season that will change. Monk, he needs to go. Play until he retires with another club, and then come back and be a part of the off pitch staff.
they all played well imo and michu's goal was a cracker.....3pts against fulham playing like that is a certainty and hopefully put us in 8th place.....
I'd like him to stay but for the benefit of becoming a member of the backroom staff next season. He seems to be a ship stabiliser as far as the cohesion goes.
Good comments rhys. Tiendalli for me is a must signing for NeXT season. If laudrup wants a small squad then having a player who can cover 3 positions is vital IMO . I like the tactic of having him and rangel playing together too, it makes us solid when we need it, id be dissapointed for tiendalli if he doesnt Get a contract but the home grown rule Will be a factor to consider i guess. Laudrup touched on this a few weeks back.
would rather have tiendalli than hernandez or ki for that matter, but surely Pri 1 is a striker, Pri 2 a striker, and Pri 3 a CD so let Michu play as an AM
I'm still undecided with de Guzman - I think he has the ability but needs to work harder and goes missing a bit too often. With Pablo - yes he had a decent game yesterday and was involved in a lot, but I still think his negatives are far outweighing his positives at the moment. He gives the ball away far too often and is for me the biggest liability in our team. He is a game changer - but sometimes for the worse. Ki - I like him. I feel he is a much better asset to us than de Guzman and Hernandez. He has a calm head and can spot a great pass. I certainly think he should be given at least another season to prove himself - plus the added financial bonus and publicity he brings in from our Korean following. Tiendalli - yeah he's a decent player and flexibility in his position makes him very useful. I hope we keep him. All of this is assuming we don't have plans to improve on these players. We definately need a quality out and out striker - that's the most obvious improvement. If Ash goes - then he goes and I'm sure we'll cope. I'm not positive he will go simply because he's had far too many poor performances this season.
Tiendalli - yes Ki -yes Monk - No JDG -NO - saw his petulance yesterday after he made a rub abd was missed out - he threw his arms in the air and strolled back. Pablo -No -heard talk about how he can change a game with one pass - the only time I've seen him do that is when he passes to them! Don't think it will be so easy to get rid of him considering he cost 2-1/2 times as much as Michu so- I really really hope that the improvement we saw yesterday ( even though he could have won the game for us instead of giving the ball away that led to Rio goal) is actually a trend. what about Bartley - if it's not him we need a CB Kemi - thanks pal- see ya Moore - unless we get two - will need to stay around Lamah - who?
Good post Rhys. Teindalli has been good but I think the homegrown rule means that Jazz will be the sub fullback next season. Be happy to keep him though, works hard and and has presence. Tremmel is fantastic back up to Vorm, I really rate him. Distribution is poor but that's the main reason he's back up to Vorm imo. de Guzman has really disappointed me for a few months now, the only guaranteed starter for some reason. His dead ball 'prowess' frankly, is rubbish. Not worth the reported buy out fee £5-7m that's been touted recently. Schechter - Do I even need to say anything? Pablo is much more divisive on these forums. I have always stood by him as he has that little bit of magic in him. His confidence seemed shattered after his injury for some reason but the last few games he has really started to come alive again. I think he would shoot earlier if his confidence was higher and I reckon he will score against Fulham. Hand's down positive! how many assists/ 8 or 9? That's not bad. I think he will find another gear next year and get some more consistency in his play. Also I thought he looked great when he drifted out to the right (his natural position) and we should play him there more often. Dyer has looked good drifting into the middle and Routs can play out left so that's what I'd do. Kemy and Moore should be replaced with better if possible. Otherwise keep them on for a year. Michu has had a decent season. He can stay.
Rhysj couldn't agree more, well said mate, good post. If I'm honest I wouldn't miss Hernandez, or De Guzman if they were shipped out, but Chico, Michu, Tiendalli, have been top draw. Tiendalli I like a lot, he offers us so much flexibility down the right flank, that it would be criminal if we didn't sign him, great little player. Thought Taylor did very well for his first game back after such a bad injury, well impressed and my 13 year old son said, he looks like he's never been out! so all in all as long as we get a quality striker, and get Cannas deal finalised, with a replacement for Ash if he goes, I'll be happy, though I hear there are about another 5 players coming in in the summer, so there will have to be some shipping out, though we have got ride of Graham, but Shec will definitely not be staying, not sure what's happening with Moore, but it's looking like a busy summer, hope we don't lose Vorm though..............
I'd like to keep Tiendalli because he's a useful player but he does need to work on his positional play - often found wanting there. Wholehearted player, though. de Guzman can leave as far as I'm concerned. Has lots of ability but his attitude sucks and he is a weak link when we are defending. If we do buy him, I'm thinking £3 million max. Pablo, well here's the thing. At his worst, he's really bad. At his best, he's a match winner. With this in mind I'm going with the old adage that form is temporary and class is permanent. Injury disrupted his form and confidence at a time when he was beginning to play like star; and what I really like about the guy is that he doesn't hide. Even when he's been playing badly he's been in there trying to play his way back into form. That shows character and a good attitude, which I think is vital in a player. Stick with him, I say, because I think he will thrive next season when he has settled in more. If he does find form, we will have some player. Obviously, Itay goes and Kemy can join him for me. If Ash follows so be it. Shame but if we can get £8/10 million, I think we can get a decent replacement for about £5/6 million, someone taller and good in the air to stop those set piece goals flying in. Moore is a puzzle. He's left out then comes in and scores then he's left out again. Laudrup has stated that this is only because team formation and tactics dictate it but, if that's the case, how come Shecter gets the nod in front of him when we do play a striker? Is there something going on in training that we don't know about? Maybe Shecter looks the business and produces whilst Moore just strolls it. I don't know. Whatever, if he stays or not will very much depend on the number of strikers we bring in. That is intangible so, right now, for me, Moore stays.
Ivor, I think the reason schechter get's picked ahead of Moore is purely a willingness to run. Moore does very little so the team carries him (apart from the odd flash of class). Schechter runs his arse off but is rubbish. A 'trier' picked over a lazy bastard! Agree that we have to keep moore unless we sign at least 2 strikers. I wonder what Lamah is like? anyone seen him?lol.
after some consideration I think Moore should go...If the case is that we can't play him in games bacause of tactics we should just get someone of better quality...I bet that is never said of Michu, oh we can't play him against this team, because it wont fit the tactics...Why don't we get someone in who can play against any team because he has real quality!
I think that is the planRhys. I think ML will sign 2 strikers for sure with Michu as a 3rd option when not playing midfield. Moore and schechter don't cut it for me and next season we need to push on again and that means shipping out so we can recruit higher quality. If we have to keep one then I'd pick Moore over Itay for homegrown purposes if nothinhg else. But you make a good point: if he doesn't get picked for tactical reasons then what good is he really?
