Possibly 2/3 new defenders coming in. How will that affect the mindsets of Ferdinand Hill and the current team. I know Anton takes a lot of stick but I went to last five home games last year and him and hill played well individually and as a unit. I don't know the mind of a modern professional footballer but I can't imagine this speculation/ transfers increases motivation or loyalty to the club.

They're not good enough. Hill over-performed last season and he isn't getting any younger and Ferdinand is suspect as well. Many on here have said our defence needed serious strengthening and although Saturday's debacle was more down to poor tactics and passing no-one can say we don't need to bring in at least two top quality defenders. We've got one in Carvalho and whether it's Dawson or Shawcross they're both better than anything we've got. The players know it's perform or you're history...

This is the harsh reality of it.

Fair points. I'm just concerned that when you look at the individual's we now have in the starting line up who will be the one to lift team spirit and drive the team on the pitch. There have been so many changes and I feel we now lack leaders or a leader. By all accounts Dawson is very vocal so maybe he's the man if he comes but it would take him time to impose himself. I think we are at a disadvantage because our togetherness is less than most clubs in the PL. Maybe that will come in time.

We all know Hill over performed last season, and got the accreditation for doing so. If he hadn't been handed a new contract everyone would have been up in arms. Now... the new season, transfer window, and he's not up to this squad. Am I going crazy, or is it everyone else!!!!
Give me Carvalho for a season, and Dawson signed up and I would be much happier!!!

Is Carvalho confirmed in? I haven't seen that, but it would be good news. Clint is still a great player, but I think he needs to have someone quick along side him, and though quick I'm unsure about Onouha at CB - his passing was awful Saturday. I don't think Anton is good enough.

Not another one! ... They are professional footballers at a club they known that they aren't going to play or they know they have to work extra hard to get into the starting lineup ... it's really that easy. No one player is bigger than the club

There wasnt any team spirit shown on Saturday so it will have no effect.
They were awful and no defender or goalie can have any complaint about being replaced, especially the 3 who played CB at various stages in the game.

I didnt want Hill signed and dont think he was POTY, just as Kenny wasnt POTY before.

Wow, some harsh comments here. Professional footballers are still human beings and are probably less emotionally mature than many in society. So, yes, new players that displace established squad members will cause disruption. How MH deals with this kind of situation will indicate his strength as a manager. He has pretty much an entire new first team already and faces a really big challenge.

I don't think there are many defenders / back lines that could have coped on saturday with the massive great hole left in front of them. Team spirit will take a knock every time the ball comes forward from the opposition and the defenders look up and wonder where all their mates are.

It seems like someone shouts "everybody up" and we end up with a forward line of 6 or 7. Once the ball is lost, the opposition pass out to the acres of space in midfield. The defensive line doesn't know whether to fall back or come out. If they come out they are simply put out of the game by a pass to an unchallenged runner. If they stay back it gives the opposition time to move even more men forward and the defenders can be put out of the game with some neat one-twos or through passes. Meanwhile the QPR midfield is still jogging back.

it doesn't help when the defensive line of four includes two players who charge up playing as wing-backs. The you have 7 or 8 playing up front and the hole behind is even bigger.

It is not rocket science. We have people who can score goals. We need to be able to get the ball to them. Passing the ball accurately would help. It doesn't need every begger to rush up the field to achieve that. By the time they have all had a touch and passed it from one wing to another the opposition have 10 men between the ball and the goal.

It would also help if there was some quick movement in and around the box. Hoillett looked good for this on Saturday, but all too often the ball went to Mackie on the right wing who fought hard, went past one or two then couldn't make the final pass.

The movement of our players is poor compared with other teams I watched over the weekend.

It isn't difficult to sort out if the players are prepared to play both attacking football and defensive football when called for.

It reminds me of the playground where everyone wants to be centre forward and score the goals. Our midfield has to be aware of their defensive duties as well. It won't matter who plays at the back if those in the middle see themselves purely as part of the attacking force.

Onuoha isn't a RB and isn't good enough to play CB? Ferdinand isn't good enough to play?

Well we better get some super human players in quick smart because the ones we've got, who's old clubs seem to rate them and who've got the experience at the top level, apparently aren't up to it.

I reckon we should install revolving changing rooms so that every half we can just replace the team as a whole since they're outdated so quickly.

Hang on.... Carvalho and Dawson aren't good enough...... wait for it..... NOW.... their replacements aren't good enough either....

Perhaps we should just abandon league football and focus on the Masters tournament - our useless aging squad might not finish bottom of that.

Anyone notice that Kaspers Gorkks had a good game for Reading yesterday - He and Heider Helguson have slipped through the net imo

Hill still has a role with us, but probably now, on the bench

People seem to be singling Clint Hill out but in my opinion, Anton Ferdinand is the worst defender at the Club. He was sh*t last season and against Swansea he was useless. Its seems like his career has been more on the back of his brother's rep than his own ability.
