Guys left back class is so weak. Alonso has beaten Young, Davies, Zinchenko, Monreal & Lowton.
Alonso rode all his free kicks to make the team.
Perspective please. Kid is an awful defender.

I would play Alonso as a free kick taker every single game but not as left back or wing back even for 1 game.

Personally I would have given to Robertson.

PS - Last season when we won the league Marcos didn't make the 11.

Tbf I like Alonso but not sure if he should be in the TOTY. Now that he's banned, I would hope to see Emerson get some decent game time.

Mmmm.....trust your opinion or the people within the game who voted for Alonso.....tough one......

It's okay if you don't see what most others see, just stop the vilification.

No wonder team looks solid without 2 passengers today. Just what Doc ordered.

Stan, buddy, I can kind of see your point when it comes to Fabregas.
He has no legs, he is a great passer of the ball, but if you have a midfield with pace, then it is quite easy to keep Fabregas out of the game if you keep possession and move the ball quickly. He can be rendered ineffectual that way, and I agree that he should be moved on in the summer.

But on the Alonso thing, mate you are just plain wrong, the guy is a cracking player. I have no idea why you have decided to pre-emptively target Alonso, is it because Fabregas will most likely leave and you feel you need to transition to someone else?
Everyone, from Chelsea fans, to pundits, to ex-professionals, can see that Alonso is a decent player, he was just voted in the Team of the Year ffs, yes he has made mistakes before and had off days, all players do, but you are just so wrong.

I still remember a game when you called a defeat for Chelsea when Alonso was picked and he grabbed 2 goals and an assist and we won 3-1 and made you look a plonker.

It’s not hard to do that in all fairness.

Again, I would take Alonso as a left sided attacking player most days especially for his free kicks.

But I will not take Defender Alonso for most games in starting 11. He is poor at best as Defender.

What did everyone make of Emerson last night? I thought he did really well up and down the left side, and looks a good defender too.

Emerson is better defender than Alonso. Looks solid and not jittery.

He looks quick too. We badly lack pace imo.

Alonso can only beat Cescy in a foot race. Easily 2nd slowest player on our team.

We need speed for wingbacks. No wonder Alonso rarely defends.

If Alonso had an extra yard of pace he would be class. I do like him as a footballer and his free-kicks are something else. I agree with what you say about his defending, but he's not as bad as you make out imo.

No one is bad as he makes out.

He thinks that starting Alonso and Fabregas means an automatic loss.
Weird that we have won so many games this season

Nah. I identify and point out the weakest links in the team. Easily Cescy & Alonso are the poorest in our 11 any given day. So they are reason for most of the defeats.

No you have said many times "Cescy starting, no chance of 3 points!" or words to that effect.
You think Alonso is poorer than Bakayoko, Cahill or Morata?!
    Seriously?
