Have to agree Dave - I was gobsmacked to see Whittaker in there. He did well going forward, but not so well defensively.
i assume its because he scored and got an assist from right back - no mean feat! he did have a couple of defensive lapses but overall he was pretty good. he's always been better going forward so you do expect the odd gaff at the back if you play him.
seemingly he could be equally replaced by a horseshoe, a rabbits foot and a four leaf clover, because the only thing that darth crooks highlighted about his performance was how lucky he was throughout.
i was kind of hoping crooks would get the boot in the BBC clear out (like colin murray, who i personally thought was good), but alas he is still with us
According to Opta, Whittaker had the highest score of any defender in the prem on Saturday with an 8.4 - check the infographic: http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/aug/19/premier-league-10-talking-points Interesting that they also include Baines and Distin in there! Shows how tough the team we faced is. Distin in particular has slipped under the radar, but I thought he was very good.
also, mignolet? i know he saved a penalty but in the same game, begovic was absolutely stunning! liverpool bias from the beeb again...
