For as long as I have used online forums (606 since about 05) people have posted a combined North London team to prove (beyond the actual results) who has the best squad. Over the last few years it has been very pleasing to see a rise in the Spurs quota, culminating in last years team where I for one, had more Spurs players than Gooners. However our teams have changed quite a bit this year, so what would be your team. You can use players used so far, or players you feel are being over looked (if you are a loud n proud David Bentley fan for instance!). Both teams are lining up 4-2-3-1 this year, so I will opt for: ----------------------Lloris------------------ Walker-------Kaboul------Verm------Santos -----------------Sandro--Dembele---------- ----------------------Cazorla---------------- -----Gervinho---------Ade--------Podolski/Bale (either or) 6/7 Spurs players 4/5 Gooners Who would you pick?
This thread will be at 10 pages by the end of the day Santos doesn't even get into their team and it's too early to know how good Lloris will be for us. Similar for Podolski and Gervinho's only been good for about a week.
Podolski instead of Bale? Like YV said what has he done for his North London club? Santos? I think that was just a token gesture Guru incase the goons get upset...i totally understand. By the end of the season Vert will be pushing to replace Verm easily. Cazorla is class.
Think even Arsenal fans would be surprised at your inclusion of Santos I'd go for: Lloris, Sagna, Kaboul, Vertonghen, Vermaelen (or Verts LB with Vermaelen CB) Cazorla, Sandro, Dembele, Bale Adebayor, Podolski Tried to be as neutral as possbile, was hard for me to leave out Ekotto but his start to the season hasn't been great. Notable mentions also need to go to: Friedel, Schczczny (SP?), Walker, Wilshere and Defoe.
What has Wilshere done? I wouldn't have him...unless we need to create a realistic feel to this combined team and add a crock?
This is the line up I put on Arsenal's board: Friedel (Lloris is probably going to be a lot better but I haven't seen him play yet) Walker Vermaelen Koscielny BAE Wilshere Arteta Dembele Cazorla Posolski Defoe/Adebayor (I'd consider myself neutral here btw, I hate you both )
I put Santos as I think he gets forawrd well, esp towards the end of last year. Gervinho I think is quite effective, moreso than Lennon or walcott. Podolski I have rated for a long time, and Bale has not really been on it this year (twice last night we broke against Lazio and had midfielders looking to spread the ball to the wing - looking for the destroyer of full backs to go 1-1 for one of the very few times, looking for bale, who can whip in a dangerous ball....and where was he...wondering around in the middle lost amungst defenders and dempsey+defoe...Argghhhhh who is going to whip it into to you Bale...you ARE the winger!!!
My objective team: Lloris/Friedel (either) Walker Vermaelen Vertonghen BAE Sandro Dembele Cazorla Dempsey Ade Bale Man: Wenger I really think our squad and players are better on paper. However, as much as it pains me to say it, Wenger is some sort of genius. He gets that team playing at its peak and sometimes above every single season whereas i think we marginally (ok, sometimes a lot) underperform based on the quality of players we have
Yeah, it hurts as a Spurs fan to say it but he is an amazing manager. Like you, I think our squad is better on paper when comparing man for man but Wenger seems to get his players to give an extra 10% when it matters and there's not many, if any managers that can do that.
As a neutral: Friedel Sagna, Vertonghen, Kaboul, Vermaelen, Cazorla, Wilshere (Once he's back), Lennon gervinho Defoe, Podolski Manager: Wenger. Owners: Tottenham's owners!
Chesney (until Lloris is first choice at Spurs) Walker Kaboul Vermaelen Gibbs Dembele Sandro Wilshere Cazorla Adebayor Bale.
